The USAC .25 Midgets will be racing at the Warsaw Speedway July 13th and should be some good racing at a track that's been around for years.

What a great deal!!!!!!!
![]() I don't know what or who is organizing the show, or if you'd be interested in my help, but I offer my services to announce the evening's races. I grew up around there and never got to do anything more than run line ups down to the pit shack before the track closed. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. HOSS races at New Paris July 10, maybe we can get a car over there to display???? |

what suprises me is there are no petitions to get the "The Most Scenic Speedway in the Midwest" reopened. Trust me I live in warsaw and the people on the lake had no right, they moved in next to a track and expected what for it to be all sun shine and rainbows, the track should have never backed down, they would have won. There are even previous cases of tracks winning in this scenario. It hurt the town, It hurt the fans, and it hurt Drivers. Who did it help rich boy and rich girl living on the lake who didn't like racing. I personally think its time for the normal people to fight back and get warsaw reopened and this might be just the way to do it start out with .25 midgets this year. next year maby some normal migets, and then the year after that some "real" sprints, and then race every month, then every other week and then every weekend. Basically start off small and work it back up to the big stuff.

There have been several 'efforts' over the years to get racing back in town. Terry Shepherd put a try in some years ago, but it all has gone for not. He did get a mini sprint race during fair week.
The jist of the "suit" (it never went to court) was to cease racing at the fairgrounds. The fair board kind of drew a compromise to keep the fair week demo derby and tractor pulls. At any rate the fair board didn't have the money to defend a suit brought by nine prominent lakers. So they agreed to cease and desist. I agree that it has affected the community. In what ways? It's hard to say. You've been around just like the rest of us. We all found other places to race, and seen those who raced at Warsaw go on to many levels of success. (Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart. Joey Saldana. Tony Elliott. Dave Darland). Of course now having a Busch series team in town is an irony of the greatest kind. I wish things hadn't gone like they did in '89 and '90. But they did. We get to race there again tonight, let's go have some fun. See you at Warsaw Speedway Posted via Mobile Device |

I’m glad to see they are actually running a real race during the fair. Demolition derbies and truck and tractor pulls don’t count.
I was born and raised in Warsaw so I spent most Saturday nights there as a kid until it closed in ’90. It was a damn shame that a few “powerful” (I use that term rather loosely) people were able to get the place shut down. There was a great fan base there at one time. I know several people that never missed a week that don’t go at all anymore. Gas City can be hard to get to on a Friday night and Kokomo can be hard on Sunday because of work. So some people just stopped going at all which is sad since they had such a good place to go. I actually think you MIGHT (big maybe) be able to get the place going again in regard to the road block of people wanting it closed. I’m sure some of those people have moved on. I think the place is really missed up there by a lot of people. It would take a pretty good chunk of change to get the place back to what it once was. I’ve been by there and it’s pretty run down for obvious reasons. A lot of the shell is still there, but it would take a lot of work to get it back. I’m really glad they have something racing there again. I’d love to be able to make it up there just to be at the old place again. Maybe this will get people thinking about it again. I hope all the drivers Melmo listed show. Tony, Bimbo, Denny England, and DeWayne Barker were the kings back in those days. DD and Jeff Walker were also good the last few years it was open. |

like I said if all goes well tonight then maby next year we can get them to bring in some midgets and build the racing back up at the track. If they just put a bunch of 360 sprints out there, there would be a mob (bad) on the door tonight.

sorry for the double post but while we are on the topic, this is what I would like to see next year for a 20-45 year old division.
![]() @open openwheelTK its not really all the run down, they moved alot of dirt out of there when they closed it down, lucky Elkhart county gravel is just up the road, clay could be brought in cement walls put in place and we could be racing Saturday night if we wanted to badly enough. ![]() |
