I can remember going there when I was growning up and watching some of the best dirt racing there ever was.
I grown up about 15 miles north of Terre Haute and when there was a race there you had to get there hours before the gates open to get a good seat to see the best in thw world coem there and race.
When they had nascar night there it was so packed they you could not walk around there.
ALL I can say is I will drive to Rossburg, Ohio to watch the race before I will come back to Terre Haute Action Track, I only live a few miles down the road from Terre Haute but until they get Mike King out of there I will never come back. He has NO GLUE how to ran a track all he can go is run his mouth and say what people want to hear.
They will never get more then 4 races a year there if they keep him there.
If they would of only let SMOKE take over the track back in 2005 they would of had some of the best racing around.
MAN it could been great to see the big STARS of nascar to come there and ran a dirt race let do at the BIG E.
Look at all the money that city of Terre Haute could of may if Tony was running the place.
OH we'll let a jerk like Mike King keep running it int he dirt and Terre Haute will never get back to the way it was.
ALL I CAN SAY LOOK OVER THE STATE LINE IN OHIO AND CHECK OUT THE BIG E AND WANT TONY STEWART HAD DONE. HATE OR LOVE HIM HE IS THE BEST THING GOING TODAY.
NICE JOB MIKE KING NOT
Can you say April 4th. Worst track in the history of Eldora and you want that at THAT.

Granted Sat. was a cluster fxxx, but at least they tried.

You must not get out much. Did you make to Eldora for the 2-day USAC show in April? Guessing not or you wouldn't be running your mouth about how great it is over there.

I have to agree. It was impossible to fire the cars on the muddy track or in the standing mud and water in the old push lane. The best hope we had of rolling the track in was to get some sprint cars on it. Robert was the first driver I went to in hopes of finding one who would try to let us fire them in the wet grass along drag strip.

I said, "Robert, I trust you if you trust me, lets see if we can fire you in the wet grass along the dragstrip". He replied, "Let's do it." It was very slick and difficult to get the rearends to break loose, but we did it. Once everyone saw we could do it, the others followed. Although some cars took several attempts to get fired under those conditions, all cars eventually fired. Without the sprint cars rolling in the track, we couldn't have gotten any of the show in. "Thanks Robert"... And thanks to rest of the drivers for stepping up.

With six hours of rain beginning around 11:00am and additional showers during the evening, it is amazing we saw any racing. The fans that were there came to see racing, the drivers wanted to race and the track staff tried everything possible to give them both what they came for. Ideal conditions, hell no.

The Sheriff allowed the track to attempt to finish the feature when there was a red flag a minute before the midnight curfew. but with additional cautions and another red flag he pulled the plug at 12:25. We saw more racing than I ever dreamed we would see. Thanks to all for the efforts to get the show in, including the fans that came out to help wheel pack a very muddy track.

The fact they got it in was amazing, only the original T. H .A. T. promoters (the late Mr. Hopton et al) would have tried as hard. People on here ***** and moan that they we "held hostage by the promoter" or that they had to sell "one more beer or hot dog" THEY GOT IT IN DIDN'T THEY? The fact of the matter is they could have said at 2pm it's over and you would have bithed that they quit to soon, instead it ran OVER CURFEW, and you ***** because you were there to long. If you want a timed event go to a football or basketball game. I'm going to start going to more dirt late model show, the fans there are, for the most part, to stupid or drunk to ***** about seeing a race they actually paid to see.

Pretty sophisticated crowd us open wheel folks. We drink ding-a-ling beer and eat barbequed groundhog. Them late model racers ain't got nothin on us edumacated openwheelers.

Seeing as how you reside in Terre Haute, You didn't have to drive 4hr or more then sit thru another four hours of rain delay without a decision, Then getting home at five am.

Maybe you worked saturday getting up at five, heard they were still running and got home at two am. Hostage doesn't always mean they are doing something wrong. Just not going as planned.

Take a kid to something like that, Try to make church after something like that, Your view might be different.

Im not making any comment here if it was right or wrong to run or cancel, Just stating there are many different ways to see what at happened saturdays race.

YMMV Ive seen both good and bad from those who went.

Don't think promoters or tracks can keep track of everybody's work schedule or what they have planned the next day. If it don't fit your schedule, then don't go. I did take a kid Saturday night and he did fine, although I will admit he did fall asleep.

I must say, when this group took over this track and listening to all their babble about the history & getting back to the good old tradition of the action track of the Terre Haute we all once knew and loved, I'll admit, I was greatly encouraged.
However, as someone joked earlier it appears we have gone back to the Allison days or worse. There is nothing worse than having your customers feel as though they are being held hostage waiting for what they paid & came to see.

When I pay to see the average movie in the theater, they don't wait for everyone to get in there seats with their popcorn, nor do they stop it along the way to run promotions or etc. With the way the Hoosier 100 is going to be, makes me think these guys are involved in it.
So that being said I give these guys a 1/2 star & 2 thumbs down. You can have all of that stuff, when the Vigo County Fair is there in July.

There is not much finer racing, than to be at Terre Haute and witness the sprinters screaming down the 1/2 mile frontstretch kickin it sideways at the flagstand going into turn 1. To be watching a timely show moving right along with no gaps or promotion along the way.
No one seems to want the old traditional race fan and their kids at the track anymore. That being the case (even though it is the closest track to me) I will drive right by it, to go elsewhere. Oh! and guess what? So will some of the best sprintcar teams. Take a look at who was at the Burg & Putnamville last night.

So until, someone truly takes this track operations and surface back to the potential it really has, I will continue to spend my hard earned money at other tracks, still supporting this sport I love. I know that fine race track is still buried in there somewhere. It will take the right promoters to bring it out and return THAT to it's historic greatness.
Sorry for the ramblin, I'm off the soapbox now.
Amen!!!!!! Brother preach on !!!!!!!

I'll give them an A plus for effort but they need at least 12 push trucks for every event.Did the white tow truck move after 9:30

Every track that raced had a late night, but got there races in

For the blogger's that didn't go see the midnight sprint car series you missed a good column
