Brady Short Wins at Lawrenceburg!
Brady Short, from Bedford, Indiana won for the second
time at Lawrenceburg Speedway since the track was
reconfigured to a 3/8 mile high banked oval. 23
Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars were on hand as
the season is well underway. Although Short was the
pole sitter, Chris Windom, coming off a win the night
before at Bloomington would take the lead from the
outside front row. Windom would lead for the first 6
laps, but it wasn’t without excitement. Brady Short and
Windom battled side by side for a few laps before Short
was able to stay in front of Windom. Short was not
challenged again and went on to win the 25 lap feature
event. Current point leader, Robert Ballou, started back
on the outside of row 10, charged his way to the front to
finish in fourth. Following Short across the line were
Windom, Nick Faas, Ballou, and Coleman Gulick. Heat
race winners for the night were Short and Windom, and
Blake Fitzpatrick. Robert Ballou remains the point leader
for The Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars. The
Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars return to the race
track on June 13th.

Budweiser UMP Modifieds (27 cars)
Groomer beat Groomer!
19 year old Derek Groomer had much to celebrate after
winning the feature race at Lawrenceburg. Not only did
he win the race, he beat his older brother Ralph to the
finish line. 27 Budweiser UMP modifieds were all racing
to get one of the 20 spots for the nights 20 lap feature.
The green flag would drop with Multiple time track
champion Brad Weick on the pole alongside Scotty
Mattlin. Mattlin would charge to the lead but Weick
was in hot pursuit. Just as Weick was making his move,
he lost control and spun out, sending him to the back of
the pack for the restart. As Mattlin, Jeff Harris, battled
for the lead, Derek Groomer who started inside row 4,
was moving his way to the front. He wrestled the lead
away from Mattlin on lap 9, and would not look back.
Rick Bingham was the only other driver to challenge
Groomer, but Bingham spun out in turn 2 trying to make
a bid for the lead. Derek’s older brother, Ralph finished
second followed by Brad Weick who came all the way
back to third, Scotty Mattlin, and Joe Justice. Heat Race
winners were Weick, Mattlin, and Chuck Griffis. The
Budweiser UMP modifieds return to The Lawrenceburg
Speedway for a doubleheader on June 5-6.

OVS Pure Stocks (19 cars)
Bruce No Stranger to Victory Lane at The Burg!
The defending Track Champion for the Ohio Valley
Screenprinters Purestocks, Mark Bruce was in victory
lane again, but for the first time in 2009, and after several
victories in 2008. 19 OVS Purestocks would line up for
the 15 lap feature. The green flag would drop, and Pat
Weber starting on the inside of row 3 saw the green and
jumped to the inside taking the lead away from pole
sitter Mike Keller. Much to the excitement of the crowd,
Weber was out front and holding off Mark Bruce, the
defending track champion. It wouldn’t last for long, as
Bruce proved to be much faster and went around
Weber. The only other driver to challenge was Will
McRoberts who won the first feature of the year at
Lawrenceburg. McRobert’s kept it interesting, but
Bruce would hold on for the win. Following Bruce, and
McRoberts across the line were Pat Weber, Rick Vance,
and Ed Huffine. The OVS Purestocks return to the
Lawrenceburg Speedway on June 20.
