Gregg, I doubt that individual ever had a career in anything except anonymous messge board posting.

I lay the balme for Tim's injuries on one person and one person only:

George W. Bush.

Why you may ask? Well, W. gets blamed for everything else why not this? :O:

On a serious note, I do wonder why the Chili Bowl would allow a racer (any racer) compete without insurance? Not flaming them at all, I just wonder why that isn't something they don't require.

I hope Tim gets better.

One of the reasons would be the impact that it would have on car counts. I bet there are more guys competing w/o insurance than do (just a hunch on my part though). Also, I think it is the responsiblity of the event organizer to carry reasonable insurance on his competitors and customers, thus, the $25 to $40 to get into the the pits at various tracks and events but, beyond that, why would the promotor interfere in the personal choices of the participants and "require" that they go out and purchase health insurance from Anthem or some other HMO?? It doesn't affect the promotor one bit unless he happens to be selling the insurance.

Watching the video it looks like the final landing is what hurt him. A lot like Brad Marvel at Williams Grove. When you land flat on the rear and the rear end gets driven up into the seat as the drivers azz is get compressed into it will hurt a driver.
I don't know of any azz safety devices made to stop this. His flips were just that, but the landing was hard. Backwards and I would bet on the concrete outside the track.

As far as insurance, Stida should be a must for a profesional driver as well as the local track racer. Track insurance only goes so far.

Hope he recovers and can return to racing.

Regarding insurance. There are accident policies out there that pay you a set amount of money per day if you are injured. They do not pay hospitals anything and the money you receive goes directly to you. Price varies according to the amount. $300 a day cost you about $25.00 a month. I know a guy in a motorcycle wreck that got paid about $12,000 for 30 days he missed work. Better than nothing at all.

I Have not seen it or heard it,but I was told that Hahn said on a radio interview that a picture showed that the cage dug about 6 inches into the track and that head hit the track.His neck was probably broke before he went over the fence. Has anyone else heard this?

If you watch the video at his website you can see that it looks like the top of his cage went into soft dirt just above where the cushion would be. So this could be right. Being temporary setup the dirt in that area was probably not packed at all.

He didn't break his neck, the reports were that he fractured T3, which is in the middle of your back (thoracic).....the C section (cervical) is in the neck.
