I loved to see the team of Kinser and Nordhorn with the cars painted alike. I'm suprised that Bud Detmer in the #7 is not in there. Maybe they called it quits the year before.

Thanks for posting these. Man, that is fun reading all those names. I keep thinking I'll see my Dad's car in there, but this was also the time when we raced over in Ohio. Dad and Mom really did not care for 1/4 mile tracks, but loved the miles and halfs. However, He and Hal Minyard did finish 2nd in points at Limaland, OH. in 1971 which is obviously a 1/4. I can remember that we would climb into the old pickup with the open trailer and drive over 3 hours from Indy to Lima on a Friday, then raced at Eldora on Saturday, then pick either Kokomo or Millstream on Sunday nights.

On most weekends we hit Millstream, but Dad had to stop a little over half way home to get a nap in. He would drop Mom and I off first thing on Monday morning and then headed to the shop, where he had his garage business. Mom, would drop me off late in the day and then Dad and I would unload that evening and get things washed up before getting after maintenance. I was around 8 or 9yrs old and spent a ton of time cleaning the car and then cleaning parts, etc.

BTW... Due to bad times economically, in 1971 Dad had a tough time making a living as a garage owner and mechanic so in the spring of 1971 he and Hal Minyard hooked up and did nothing but race all year. In fact, they made enough money to support both families without having to work at anything else, but race. Dad got stock chevy engine parts from Tom Harris Chevrolet located in Lebenon, IN and built his own 350 engines.

Shortly after that, Paul Hollingsworth built Dad a garage on his Mom and Dad's property in New Augusta, IN. Dad rented the building until about 1982 when he retired. Of course it was during this time that I got to hang out with Paul's son Blake, who I had actually met when I was four years old. I also spent a summer or two hanging out with Blake's brother Randy. Of course today Shane Hollingsworth is making his Grandpa, Paul and Dad, Blake proud by finishing up 8th in points this year in the USAC silver crown division and finishing up his degree at Rose Hulman. Oh yea, he got married too!

I'll bet the name you are looking for is Cliff Johns , he drove the G2 car for Gordon Gormley , and the car was sponsored by Wells mobile homes from Evansville Ind
Harry Hale also drove it at Haubstadt.

Hey ,Butch I believe the car was # 21 , not his normal ride. I asked dad(LEON) and he said the same thing also.( Don was Rich's uncle )

Rich lives here in Henderson Ky . He works P/T at Tim Englers shop ,as I live about ten miles from him ,I see him every once in a while , he's got a couple of karts he's messin with ,with his grandson. thanks, Donnie Gentry
