They tried self starters on Midgets several years ago. They worked pretty good on short tracks, but had major problems on the larger tracks.

I remember one day at Winchester, even though the field had self starters, they still had to be pushed off. The gear they ran at larger tracks was so high that they could not pull the cars out of the pits by their self. That was the main reason starters went away.

And I ask again, does USAC require a certain amount of support vehicles?

Well I dont.. I will be fielding my own Sprint car, Number 9 this year.. So what are you Implying? I work at a glass factory and Work my ass off to have the car that i Have! thank you..

Maybe usac should just require each entry to provide their own push truck. problem solved.

Would someone tell me why everytime someone complains about a sprintcar/midget show running to long its always the push trucks fault. Correct me if I'm wrong but at 99% of the racetracks being a push truck is a volunteer position. The only thing that you get out of it is a pit pass and a lot of dirt thrown at you. They might throw in a few bucks for gas thats about it. When you break my window from pulling away from me because your pissed off that you spun out or dent my hood because your tires are covered in mud after hot laps you don't hear me complaining about it. Just accept the fact that thats the way it goes sometimes. Maybe the next time the show is running too late for the push trucks we should just leave. I have a job to go to just like you. If you want more push trucks then the track or your association should hire some otherwise you get what you get.

Push trucks and drivers should be provided by the sanctioning body. That way if there are any complaints or problems they can be resolved inhouse and not in places like this.

The only "self starters" allowed in midget/sprint racing should be those on the pushtrucks.

The spin rules should be two and through UNLESS the spin you made was to avoid nailing an accident that happened infront of you. I would make an exception for that and that only.

Limit support clases for sure. If a midget/sprint double header is scheduled then only a late model or modified class. If only a midget or sprint car race then late model and modifieds should be scheduled.

Cosanctioned events would be the best thing for USAC to do. Put USAC up against POWRi, BMARA, ARDC, RMMRA and lets see who does have the best of the best. Start a USAC stock car series again. There are lots of good used NASCAR cars available now with the COT coming in. USAC can take the stock cars to places liek IRP, THAT, Manzy, PIR, and any other track possible. It would help provide another chance for USAC drivers working their way up through USAC before making the inevitable jump to NASCAR.

Just a few ideas.

Actually this is pretty much the situation with the IMCA Sprints. While they don't require us to have ATVs, almost all do and we push start our own cars. Arlington (MN) Speedway provides NO PUSH TRUCKS. Any 4wd ATV, 400 cc or larger will push start a 410 Sprinter as long as there is adequate traction.

If USAC is serious about wanting to improve the "flow of the show" they should attend a couple of "Interstate Racing Association" Sprint Car races up in Wisconsin. Best safety team & race support in short track racing! These people have their stuff together.
