Sad to hear, several years ago while roaming the garages at Indy I got a chance to meet him and he was nice enough to wait while I ran into the old photo shop and bought 3 pictures of him which he then signed for me. Truly a class act.

Man, I hate to read that. Several years ago at IFG, with nothing better to do while waiting
for the rain to stop, (it didn't) I got several autographs on my new Hulman 100 cap.

Parnelli Jones - Lloyd Ruby - Rodger Ward - Johnny Boyd - Bob Christie

Got to see them all race at IMS and at other tracks starting in 1961.

Now they're all gone except for Parnelli.

R.I.P. Bob Christie

Bob's nickname was the "Caveman." Wasn't that because he was a guide for tours of caves? Or something like that? Marv? Anyone?

I hadn't heard that "tour guide" explanation Danny. Entirely possible though. I always assumed that it was because when Bob had about a six hour growth of beard he somewhat resembled the Geico cavemen. They sure didn't get that "it's so easy" line from watching Bob hustle a racecar around. He never had the best of equipment (IMO) but he seemed to get the most out of whatever box he was in.
