53?
What happened to Stanbrough in the 53 car? any1 have any idea?
|
Re: 53?
He trashed the car at the USAC show a couple months ago at Haubstadt. I have not heard of him racing it since then. Was making a hard charge to the front when him and Cole Whitt tangled coming out of turn 2. Pretty hard flip.......
Hope he returns it for the last 2 MSCS events which both are $10,000 to win..... He has been driving the Baldwin Number 5 since... Sept 27th at Haubstadt & October 4th at Lawrenceburg. Jason Watt |
Re: 53?
Ya i was there at haubstadt that night and since than i have seen him in the 5 car but its not the same. something seems off with him in that car...

Re: 53?
I spoke to Brad Fox last weekend at DuQuoin and asked him point blank what the situation was...He told me that the 53 is parked. He said that the agreement with Jon was always that they would run the car as long as they stayed within their budget they had set and that the car has made money the past few years enough to keep it running. But, with the recent crashes and various other problems, that they no longer could justify running it, so they have parked it...I commented that it was the end of a "super team" and he had no retort for that, so it seems it is true. I told him I will miss the 53, but that it was a good run. A very good run.
Brad also told me that he and Steve have accepted a job with another team and will be putting all their efforts into that for the remainder of '08 and into 2009. There ya go. DM |

Thanks DM and Jason!! and it was a hell of a run in that car....

Re: 53?
I wish Jon would get out of the #5 car. I am sure he can get a better ride elsewhere as this car doesn't seem to get the job done.
He trashed this car at Tri State also when him and Ballou got into each other crossing the finish line (Last lap) Jon has had a bad run here lately when it comes to wrecking but he is to good to be denied. One of my favorite drives along with Cummins and Fitzpatrick...... Jason Watt |
Re: 53?
Ya i pull 4 jon casue he will put that car in the turn as hard as anyone and he does it on his own without a big sponsor and can still hang with levi and all the other usac boys..

Re: 53?
Race fans in Indiana have been spoiled by the number of Sprint car teams Racing today but I Think with Price to run a team getting to be so expensive we will see allot more of this how many are just hanging on now

Re: 53?
I beleive it's Ricky Williams isn't it?
My brother worked with Ricky his rookie year, he is a good driver and a good kid. The Fox's will give him great cars every night. It will take Ricky a year or so to get as consistant as say Cole Whitt;but he has the talent, the wrench's and the backing to do so. He will win races very soon. Best wishes to all involved. |

Re: 53?
Steve mentioned to me at Du Quoin that they'll be helping out Williams beginning at the $10K to win race at Haubstadt I believe. He's still young and green but he's got potential. Definitely has some good equipment.
Sorry to hear of the status of the 53.:( |
Re: 53?
I really dont think the Baldwin ride is bad equipment, and i wouldnt call him a field filler in it by anymeans, granted he isnt as fast in it as the 53 but brad and steve arent wrenching it sooo.... i would say thats why the 5 isnt as fast as the 53

Re: 53?
I never understood why the Fox boys didn't try to get some sponsorship over the years. They had more victories than anybody else and had a classy driver. I guess they just wanted to run their own deal but I still don't quite get it.

Sorry I just can't see fielding a car and people saying it was a field filler. Chuck[/QUOTE] Well, sorry to hurt your feelings, but I think its a fair comparison with the 53. I've seen the 5 run well a couple times and even win once, but more often mid-pack, or parked. However, you're entitled to your opinion.....as am I. |
Re: 53?
The owner of that 5 car is a TOTAL wierd-o. Jon does most of the work for very little in return. If a better deal opened up I'm almost sure he'd jump ship on the Baldwin 5. As for the 53, chemestry will only take you so far in this business. Eventually everyone gets complacent. They had a good run and things come to an end. Know this, Jon will win races and so will the Fox brothers. It's difficult to find someone with the "want-to" that Jon has. For Brad and Steve, maintaining a racecar is as natural to them as waking up in the morning. The easiest thing to do is blame it on Mr. Happy!!!!!!!!!!! HAHA!

Re: 53?
I wouldn't say the Baldwins'(Kenny/Margo) are wierd, they are good people. They have helped many people in this sport. In several ways other then giving them rides. They just don't approach racing as if it is their life; because it isn't. They are very successful at their business interests and that is where their dedication is.
The Baldwins' are part of a dying breed. Car owners who have equipment and hire drivers are becoming scarce. Do they run their team like I would if I where them? No. On the other hand, they have the money, time, and abilty to own a team today and I don't anymore. It is their right to run their team as they see fit and they give drivers excellent chances to continue chasing their dreams, thrill some fans and make a little money at the same time. I say good for them and I am sure they and Jon or whomever is in their equipment will win some races together. |

Re: 53?
To call the Baldwin 5 with Stanbrough in it a "field filler" is ridiculous. Jon is not as dominant in that car as he was the Foxco 53 obviously, but he's not exactly Tom Davies in it, ok?
I know that the Baldwins, Jon and Ray Kenens work their asses off to make that car go fast, and it does most of the time. They've been bitten with a bit of a bad luck bug in 2008, just as Jon was in the 53 after winning those first 11 races in May/June. It's got to turn around at some point. |

OK by me.... |
Re: 53?
I think how we forget what Jon has done in the 53 may never happen again! We are all very lucky who got to watch Jon put the hammer down and win all of those races last year. Oh ya, and how soon we forget who the "sprint car driver of the year" has been the past two years!! Sure there was some luck invoved in those races he won last year but wow he has had some bad luck this year thats for sure. Keep your head up Jon you will turn things around soon iam sure and put that 5 car in the "circle"!!:checkered:

Re: 53?
The Fox Bros and Stanbrough have won 66 races together since august of 05 thru 7-08. I am a race fan first and formost I am extremly pleased that I got to watch such GREATNESS in my lifetime. If we ever see anything like this again who knows but while it was happening it truly was SPECIAL. All I can say is thanks for the memories Fox Bros. and Jon S. they are vivid!

Re: 53?
It is funny how little some people know, but yet comment as if they are experts. For the record, Ken and Margo supply the resources. Jon busts his butt with the tireless efforts of Dave Bayless and his father, Larry. These guys have been hit with numerous bouts of bad luck, but continue to pull up the boot straps to march forward. They make no excuses, they merely suck it up and dig in to improve at every race. They are a fantastic group of people to work with. Mel and Angie are great ladies which support and encourage their men.The clown that called them a "field filler" must be a NASCAR groupy.
Ray,the guy lucky enough to drive the hauler and help in any way possible!! |
Re: 53?
This is a hard subject. What most don't realize is how hard it is to take a top notch driver like Jon and take him away from a top notch team like team Foxco. Then he gets a ride in the #5 car and everyone expects them to run like the Foxco/Stanbrough team. It's not that easy. Racing consists of 25% equipment, 25% driver, 25% luck and 25% chemistry. If there is no chemistry and they've had bad luck to boot your doomed to failure. It just takes time to find that balance, it's just like dating and we've all went thru that at one point or another. It's not that they have bad equipment, it's probably just as hard for Jon to make the adjustment because he was used to the Foxco way. Teams like Foxco/Stanbrough are few and far between these days. Sad part is as expensive as everything is it's probably only going to get worse. Best of luck to Jon and the #5 team. :D

Re: 53?
Speaking of NASCAR...........
I'll be happy to see that pencil-neck Kyle Busch run out his string of luck very soon. Maybe Tony will drive that horshoe deep up his A** in the next few weeks. :applaud: |
Re: 53?
Its sad to see the 53 parked for the year but I just want to say thanks to Jon and the Fox Brothers for the memories. I once fell away from the sport because of other things going on in my life but Jon and the Fox brothers have showed me why I used to and still do love about the sport we call open wheel racing. And Jon I'll always root for you no matter what ride you're in.
