That

The long range weather forecast is looking great for the Terre Haute and Putnamville dates for ISW. Let's hope it holds out. After last night, we could use a break from Mother Nature. Daggone rain, I don't need anymore.:22:

You might want to bring Off especially if you plan on sitting in the infield. They were horrible during the Sumar classic. I am also going to bring a candle or 2.

Leaving Valparaiso area Wednesday morning to go to the Action Track in my 28 Model A coupe. No air conditioning, radio or comfy ride for me this year.Im sure my hearing will be a little worce after 3 hours of open headers! Cant wait to be in turn one of the infield for that first hot lap session.

What do you think the car count will be as it is a Wednesday nighter? I imagine it will be down a tad from the first two rounds.

Thinking of making the haul myself. No A/C either. Who needs it? The truck has windows. :)

It will be tough to outdo Gas City, though. I got to meet Brent T Funk pre-race. Racing aside, that was the initially the highlight of the night until this one brunette sat down in front of me.

Sorry, Brent. No offense meant. :)

I also got to met Mr Funk at Kokomo :6: Hope next time we can chat more

Are all the camper hookups taken by the fair or will there be some available for race fans? Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

No offense taken. Good to meet you guys too

bigq11 7/13/15 3:01 PM

Terre Haute camping

Finally got an answer from Vigo Co. fair office. No camping spots with hookups will be available for race fans. Camper parking will be on the left after coming in off U.S. 41.

Jbaldwin 7/13/15 5:23 PM

Thanks for info. We we're on our way there and saw your post. Decided to stay at Cloverdale Rv Park off of 231. So we have hook ups. See another ISW camper here as well.

Re: Terre Haute camping

JMHO But I think its a bonehead move having fair and races sametime I don't think people going to fair are going to spend $25 more for races They are there for the fair rides and food Plus race fans will have to park farther away if you haven't noticed race fans are older folks and what about handicapped parking who are camping? I guess when I can't walk anymore I'll just sit down in the gravel If you see a old guy down I'd love a hand help to get back up :11:

flagboy55 7/13/15 6:08 PM

Agree with jim on 2 points, it's dumb to have it during the fair, and we are getting old, so take a young person with you and see if you can get the racing bug to bite em like it did us. I got me a 3 year old grandson who I'll be dragging to the track in a couple years.

Re: Terre Haute camping

A lot of People are parking the campers at LPS and driving or catching a ride over to THAT . Also if you get there before 4 pm no charge for parking after 4 it's $ 5.00 .

It's worth it and I wish they had it that way, every year. It probably won't be that way every year, though. Just whenever they happen to get scheduled on the same week. Which I'm sure is coincidental. There are a lot more people locally aware that there is a race going on, because the grandstand events get mentioned on all the promos that hit the airwaves and print, leading up to the fair. And it will draw a few more people into the infield, because they are running ads saying that you can get your kids in for free there, as long as they're under 10. And you expose new fans to racing that's of this high of quality, you're going to hook a few.

Jerry

I know this has been addressed on here before but my memory isn't what it once was. Can you carry in a cooler if it isn't beer.

This is copied and pasted from the track website:

Coolers are okay as well as beer. No glass.

Re: That

:7: I hate to say it, but I got on the Vigo County Fair site, and checked future dates, and unless USAC changes the dates they usually do sprint week, you are gonna get stuck with the fair for the next 5 or 6 years. That sucks.

I like the festive atmosphere of the fair. As long as it's dry that's the main thing.

I'm with you all the way, Jerry! The fair creates a bit more of a festive atmosphere and gives the racing event a bit more charm. Other than the $5.00 parking charge there is no particular down side and like you say Jerry, there is the possibility of gaining a new fan or two. I know it adds to the atmosphere out in Kansas at The Belleville Nationals and I can't see it would be any different at Terre Haute.

The last race(dirt Champ cars) They didn't even ask about my cooler. I asked the guy if he wanted to look and he said Nope I don't care lol :10:

Checking or not, for safety sake, No Glass, there is a reason for that rule.

Re: That

I must be in the minority because, I like the fair and racing at the same time...what better way to kill time while they are reworking track than go and enjoy some fair food. But in full discloser I do live in Indiana and have a vested interest in 4H and I do support my local kids that are involved. Elephant ears, lemon shake ups, rib eye or pork chop sandwiches...how can a guy go wrong. $5 more parking? who cares I am already spending $25 for a show that I can see at Kokomo every week for $ 12 and spending gas for a 3.5 hour drive..5 extra dollars is nothing in big picture.

To all of you old timers complaining about the race being held in conjunction with the fair, don't worry. It's a new fad that should pass in the next 100 - 200 years. As for me, I'll enjoy my funnel cake covered in powdered sugar, strawberries, and a some good old fashioned Terre Haute dirt!

Those pics are so old that they are even before MY time

The only complaint I would have is if they have sprint cars with wings instead of hot wings.

I sure wish I could go.:(

The best food I ever ate at a track was at a SOD race at the Shiawassee County Fair (up near Flint, MI). The track itself was an interesting one, but that aside, the midway was open throughout the night. I can remember quite well watching the racing while eating a whole broasted chicken.

I am looking forward to tomorrow night. Never been to THAT. Heck.... never been to Terre Haute period come to think of it.

Chill out, :) The speedway has a ton of handicap parking right beind the bleachers If you get there by 4 the parking's free.

Its a great idea to have it during the fair and yes people do come in to the races. Its also cool seeing the rides operate all lit up off the end of the speedway. Also many of those who come in, NEVER been to a sprint car race before. We need this, We need this bad.

Chuck, who wouldn't camp at THAT though if its your only option. Camp at Puttnamville both nights :)

Re: That

I doubt that it will be open but if you get to Terre Haute early. The 500 museum of wheels is there. Go north on 41 to Ohio street then east about six blocks. As soon as you cross the RR tracks its directly on the right.

If its not open, You can still see about ten or twelve cars that are in the storefront display. This is most of the racecars. The back has some pace cars and some other one of a kind or rare cars. The cars in the storefront have placards you can read with info on the car.

boiler 7/14/15 6:02 PM

I understand that it is an inconvenience for some to have races during the fair. But, its exactly what this sport needs. In fact I'd go further to say that for a prize to a 4-H winner,, offer a couple pass. Those kids travel in packs anyhow at the fair. Probably get there money back just because of the buddies will want to go as well. It isn't easy, at least for me, to get kids interested in going at first. They dont see it on TV, unless you seek it out on social media they dont see it, but one trip trip to Kokomo and they ask when we are going again. My 14 yr old daughter, has friends that had never been to any kind of car race. They complained about the dirt, noise and dirt on the way home, ran straight to the shower when we got home. Friday I left them at home to go GC they were ticked off, even girls that I thought had a terrible time. I'm rambling sorry, exposure and new fans certainly helps the sport doesn't it????????????? DD signed sons new t-shirt at kokomo between heats and features. Guess who 11 yr old son is a fan of???????? I can explain an old sport that is all but dead because it didnt handle itself very well but this post is long enough.

Tumey's 55 7/14/15 7:33 PM

I am a Kokomo resident and go to every race there I can. I must disagree with you though when you say that a Sunday night show is equivalent to a Sprint Week show. Tracy Hines, Ballou, Bacon, Brady Short and others are not at Kokomo every Sunday. Most all races at Kokomo are good but Sprint Week races are special.

kcarm92 7/14/15 7:41 PM

no support class

ThrowbackRacingTeam 7/14/15 11:56 PM

The support class are the hotties that will be walking behind the grandstand thanks to the fair. That should be all the support you need!! Now let's get on with it and quit worrying about stupid crap. It's over 30 non-wing sprints on a half mile!

flagboy55 7/15/15 12:23 AM

Well said throwback. It's about the race. (And now maybe the hotties) I would prefer to have no fair, but it wouldn't keep me from going, however my job will. So all of you fine folks who are attending, please enjoy the sport we love at one of the pinnacle race tracks in the nation!
