Spartan Speedway $1,500. to win NW
The Sawyers Chevy Superstore Wingless Sprints will race for their richest payday in speedway history this Friday at Spartan Speedway in
Mason, Michigan. NAPA The Parts Place will sponsor the evening's events highlighted by the 30 lap wingless sprint feature paying $ 1500 to win. Point leader Steve Irwin, Doug Dietsch, Chance Rice, Don Hamilton, Anthony McCune, Steve Smith and John Turnbull, Jr. are some of the regular drivers expected to compete for the winner's share. The Lipari Foods Spartan Stocks, Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stocks, NAPA The Parts Store Bandoleros, and MCR Dwarfs round out the racing program. Gates open at 5 pm with the first race getting the green flag at 7:30 sharp. Spartan Speedway is located one mile north of US 127 Exit 66 on the corner of Cedar St. and College Rd. For more information, go to the web at Spartan Speedway or call 517-676-5404. From 14- I know this is track is not in Indiana, but I am trying to get some cars to come and race this Friday. Spartan is really trying to keep this division going. If you are in the area, fan or driver, try to make it up. They normally run the sprint feature first or second. Also, I am not in any way with the track. Just support the NW nights when I can. |

Thanks for posting this info. I can't find anything on Spartan's site.

Re: Spartan Speedway $1,500. to win NW
It's on there now, but was this a race added to the original schedule? The last time I went to the site it was not on there.
What caught my eye, too, is that Spartan Speedway, correct me if I am wrong, has been paying $1,000-to-win all year long for the sprints? That's good $$$. I-96 Speedway is running open 360 winged sprints this Friday, too, but I think Spartan Speedway is the ticket for me this weekend. You can bring in your own beer there, too. :) I-96 is now in the business of chipping the fans at the concession stands these days. |

On a good note they are trying it.

Re: Spartan Speedway $1,500. to win NW
My thinking would be a track that pays sprint cars on pavement $300-$350 to start for a weekly show is not putting all the money at the top. I'd venture to say there isn't a pavement track in the country doing that. Just sayin.

With today's economy, is it possible to still run on Friday nights? Nothing against spartan speedway, but the couple times I went out there this summer, crowd was a little light. Could be deceptive because of big grand stands they have. Wonder if car counts and crowd would be better if they ran on Sunday afternoons? Anyways,my car should be ready for next year so hopefully non wing pavement racing continues next year

Re: Spartan Speedway $1,500. to win NW
Went to a Sun afternoon show last weekend, I cooked in the stands not doing that again:(. Spartan puts on a good show & the crowd is pretty good, the stands came from MIS so it is quite large tried to get wife to go:39:. I like the place only thing bad is concession prices:7:

Re: Spartan Speedway $1,500. to win NW
Regardless of all of that, it should be a good race to watch. I hope a lot of people that haven't been there before show up to watch a great race and somewhat of a unique one these days... Wingless pavement sprint cars are cool IMO.

You should only be concerned about what 1st pays! You go to win right? :6:

Congrats to Steve Irwin in taking honors last night. A nice night of racing with the exception of Tom Paterson going down in hot laps. Something I never saw before - the push truck somehow jumped his RR and the LF of the push truck landed on the right side nerf bar. The truck was then high sided by Tom's RR and had to be lifted off. Apparently the damage was too much to press on for Tom (broken shock mount we heard). Is that about it, Tom?
Met up with a long time friend, team3521, too. The last ARCA Midget Rookie of the Year. Man... remember THOSE days? And NAMARS, too? |
Re: Spartan Speedway $1,500. to win NW
Mike,
Yes, Friday night was an exercise in frustration. First let me say that I like running Spartan Speedway. I especially like their tire rule as the Hoosier 55 right rear that you must run there can legitimately be run two nights and still be competitive. Add this to a very slick track and it’s a real challenge to get around there. I would run there more, but it’s difficult for me to get up there on a Friday night. It’s about 3-1/2 hours one way for me. Friday, I left work early and still got there just in time to miss hot laps. They do group qualifying, so that’s like an extra hot lap session, so I wasn’t too worried. As I was being pushed off for qualifying, there was a lot of noise and then I saw the left front tire of the push truck sitting about even with my shoulder. After I got out, I noticed that the right rear shock mount was tore off the car and the right rear shock was destroyed. It also destroyed most of the body work on the right side. I was told the bumper had broken on the push truck. Two things instantly went through my mind. The first was, “well, that was the shortest night of racing ever!.” And the second, being a budget racer, “I wonder if I will get tow money?” Luckily, the track had an arc welder and we got the shock mount welded back on. In fact, one of the track officials that I believe was the flagman actually did the welding. With a bit of help from Doug Stepke and Dietsch, we got it repaired in time for the feature. Unfortunately, the lack of hot laps didn’t help and I struggled in the feature. I managed to finish 10th, but I wasn’t real competitive. Our next pavement race is with the USCS at Atlanta motor Speedway on August 29th. Because of my point standing with them, I’m locked into the feature, but I’ve got a lot of work to do before then. Thanks for the straight scoop, Tom. It was a bummer to see that happen to you, or for that matter, anyone else.
Good luck in Atlanta. We've been down there quite a few times visiting one of the kids over the past few years. I recommend any Mellow Mushroom pizzeria. Keep her on all four wheels and bring you and everyone else back safe. |
