Kokomo Grand Prix
I know i'm setting myself up for asking this question but as of now it's just a question and not something that will determine if we make a road trip or not cause we are planning on hitting it. Just wondering about car count. I know USAC and POWRi guys will be there but any surprises in store for this show?
|
Re: Kokomo Grand Prix
POWER I is 35 strong, add in 3 or 4 from BADGER, 2 or 3 from Oklahoma club, 2 or 3 surprises, usac,s 5-7 and you will have 50+.

Re: Kokomo Grand Prix
Hopefully there is a strong midget count (50+) and a good showing for micros. I heard some guys that don't have midget rides were looking for a micro ride. But hey, if there is only 20 cars it will be an awesome show regardless.
|
With it being a POWRi show with USAC, there will be several midgets there. I'd say atleast 40-50 as I saw a few were coming from the east coast already plus your regulars with the two sanctioning bodies. There will be several 600's I'm sure as well. Several with POWRi and then there are several here in Indiana that run locally around Kokomo. The show will be great no matter what. Kokomo speedway puts on great events all year long. Can't wait until Friday to be sitting out there with a cold one in my hand and praying for some awesome weather

Re: Kokomo Grand Prix
This should be a FAN-tastic show. Kokomo always delivers great racing, can't wait for Friday ! ! ! ! :23:

Bell Takes His Perfect 2014 Season Record to the Kokomo Grand Prix
Monday, April 7th 2014 While 2013 was a sensational season for Christopher Bell, the 19-year-old driver has proved he is not letting off in 2014. Bell swept the 2-night POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget 2014 season opener at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After only one weekend, Bell is already halfway to matching his 2013 POWRi feature wins total. "It was pretty cool to be able to go to Oklahoma and sweep the weekend," Bell said. "Port City is actually my home track, so it was a great way to start the season." The pair of feature wins gives Bell a 70 point lead over the 2013 POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Champion Zach Daum going into the Kokomo Grand Prix on Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12th. Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Indiana will host the two-day POWRi/USAC co-sanctioned race. With a large car count of experienced and successful midget drivers expected, Bell must continue to be flawless in order to stay on top. "I've been lucky enough to have run at Kokomo a few times, so hopefully we can continue our success there this weekend. Keith Kunz gives me a great car every race, so we always have a chance to do well," Bell commented. The Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports Bullet-Toyota has carried Bell to his early 2014 POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget points lead. Bell's Toyota motor has helped him achieve success on midget racing's biggest stages, as he claimed the 2013 USAC Midget championship and a podium finish at the 2014 Chili Bowl Nationals. Bell expects his Toyota motor to continue to have consistent success during the 2014 season. "Last year we won the USAC championship and it's really a credit to the guys at Toyota," Bell stated. "They give us a motor that doesn't give us problems, so we are able to stay consistent all season." After getting rained out at Macon Speedway last week, the Kokomo Grand Prix will be the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series 2014 season opener. 2013 POWRi Micro champion Nathan Benson plans to make the trip to Kokomo Speedway for the first race of the season. When commenting on how it feels to start the 2014 season as the 2013 Micro champion, Benson stated, "It feels really great. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going from last year and get a good start to the season." As a true champion, Benson has continued to improve during the off-season. "I've been building cars and selling them to people. That has helped me get better," Benson said. "I raced at the Shootout, and we did well there. I've also raced at home a few times. We haven't raced a ton during the off-season, but we're ready for 2014." POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series Driver Points - Top 10: 1. Christopher Bell (400) 2. Zach Daum (330) 3. Tanner Thorson (300) 4. Tyler Thomas (300) 5. Alex Sewell (240) 6. Justin Peck (210) 7. Darren Hagen (170) 8. Daniel Robinson (170) 9. Rico Abreu (150) 10. Matt Sherrell (150) For further information, go to www.POWRi.com. |

Re: Kokomo Grand Prix
I am def looking forward to this weekend..It will be nice to drive 30 miles west instead of going down south as I have done that the last 3 weekends :). $35 dollar pit passes are making me set in the grand stands this weekend, but there should be a stout car count..try and support this race if you can make it out..and if you cant, support a local track somewhere. Everyone have a great weekend! '

How may 600's & Ford Focus cars there?
|
Re: Kokomo Grand Prix
24 micros and 4 ignite midgets. One of which wouldnt fire so 3 ignite midgets.
|
Re: Kokomo Grand Prix
3 Ignite midgets, what is an ignite midget?, and would I be correct in assuming that they are sanctioned by something Kevin Miller has his hand in? At least he was smart enough to co-sanction with POWER-I!
|
I may be wrong (rarely) but I think that they are the ford focus cars. ALWAYS a big turn out of those......:11::11:

Re: Kokomo Grand Prix
I thought there would be more people in the stands given all the hype for this event. I sure hope this event is able to continue for many years to come.
|
Re: Kokomo Grand Prix
I'm sure some people still on spring break didn't help. Even indirectly, it hosed me. I've been watching/ hoping since Feb. for vacation hours to open up at work but they never did. At least I'll get to be there tomorrow.
Go Shane Hollingsworth!! |
Re: Kokomo Grand Prix
Could only do Saturday also. Bringing three down Saturday. Going to hit the Halfmoon I keep hearing about here, then off for some great racing.

Originally Posted by HARFprez: ABREU RIDES THE WALL TO "KOKOMO GRAND PRIX" FRIDAY WIN Featured Rico Abreu at speed around Kokomo Speedway.Mike Roth Photo Kokomo, Indiana.……Rico Abreu kicked off the Honda National Midget season in style, with a daring drive around the high side of Kokomo Speedway in Friday’s “Kokomo Grand Prix” kickoff. The St. Helena, California driver ripped around the outside of the first corner to take the lead after starting fourth and never looked back to win aboard the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports – Toyota TRD #97 Bullet/Speedway Toyota. “I thought they might leave a lane up high on the start, so I just ran it off in there and hoped it wasn’t greasy and it would stick. We came out of there with the lead and track positon was really key. Cars were scattered everywhere as I caught them, so getting through there was important tonight. I knew Dave was behind me, and you always know where he’s running, so I just kept going as hard as I could. We were bottoming out pretty hard running the top through one and two, but I just had to keep digging,” Abreu said. Abreu launched off turn-two with the early lead as polesitter front row starter Zach Daum took second. Abreu lasted through seven restarts, as Dave Darland used the first to move by Chris Windom for third and the second to pass Daum. Abreu kept a fast pace up front as Darland closed in as they hit traffic. With late cautions clearing them of slower cars, Abreu took off and lengthened his lead, bouncing through the cushion in turns one and two and roosting through the loose dirt up high in turns three and four. His massive lead didn’t slow him down, as he continued to stretch it out and encountered traffic in the closing laps, narrowly avoiding disaster as he ran into Taylor Ferns coming to the checkered. Darland lost ground late in the race, narrowly holding onto second aboard the RW CML Security – Fontana Automotive #17 Beast/Fontana. “I was able to work my way to second early there, and we were still good til halfway or a little more, but we lost some air in the right-rear and the cushion snagged us a little bit towards the end. Rico ran a good race, though, especially in traffic, so we just have to be happy with second. It was so fast tonight, it was hard to move around much. I was thinking I could do something in traffic, but he got through there really well, too,” Darland said. Defending National Midget champion Christopher Bell bicycled hard on the opening corner and lost quite a few positions, but rebounded to steadily move forward and finish third in the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports – Toyota TRD #71 Bullet/Speedway Toyota. “That start just put us behind the eight-ball. I was happy to miss the little hole in one, and then the one in turn-two got me. I was probably lucky not to get upside-down. When it gets fast around the top like that, it gets tough to slide someone. I think we were right there with those top-two, but they’re both good up there, so it’s tough to do much with them,” Bell said. Windom held on for fourth in the RFMS Racing – McGladrey #3 DRC/Stanton Mopar, and Tracy Hines climbed from eleventh to finish fifth in the Parker Machinery – Turbines, Inc. #24 Spike/Stanton Toyota. Darland started the night by claiming the ProSource “Fast Qualifier Award,” and Darren Hagen’s move from the Qualifying Race (after not registering a qualifying time) to a transfer from the Semi-Feature earned him the Weld Wheels “Move of the Night.” USAC HONDA NATIONAL MIDGET RACE RESULTS: April 11, 2014 – Kokomo, IN – Kokomo Speedway – “Kokomo Grand Prix” (co-sanctioned by POWRi Racing) QUALIFICATIONS: 1. what an incredible weekend of racing/ many thanks to kokomo speedway and to all of the 47 or so midget teams who came out to provide some of the best racing I've ever seen! crowds were o k, but there was room for more butts in the bleachers each night, and for those who chose not to come out to support the midget racing we've so been pleading for, well, I feel sorry for you cause you missed some incredible RACING, SPRINT CARS ARE AWESOME, BUT MIDGETS ARE AWESOMER! (you ain't-a-gonna see anything like this watching sprint car racing, these cars are just as fast as a sprint car and a hellova lot more agile) my apologies to kokomo speedway, as there are hand railings in a couple of sets of bleachers going about 1/4 the way up into the stands, which is high enough to see all the action up close n personal. :9:the track was in great shape and was fast and racey, but could have been wetter and tackier, got sand blasted some what with the gusty winds blowing/ but from what I heard it was all the track personal could do to get the water out of the parking lots and to smooth out the track from all the rain we'd been having, so no complaints. :31:congrats rockin rico n crew! that kids got some serious talent! away from the track, finally made it to the half moon café, good stuff! hopin to see more tracks open themselves up to the midgets, and hopin to see :9:more race fans come out to support them, its the best racing there is folks, no 2 ways about it and power I has their finger on the pulse of it all!
