Re: usac sprint car 2014
The best thing, in my mind, about this coming season is that it just looks like it's going to be a real dog fight for the title.
Clauson's going to be even tougher this year, than last, because that team gelled as last season progressed. And he's just so damned consistent, that other would be challengers know that a DNF or two and they're out of any title chase he's in. And he's just one of the fiercest competitors we've ever seen. Dave Darland's one of the all-time greats and 2013 may have been his best driving year, ever. He paired up with an underfunded team and almost pulled off the upset. Money night at the Kokomo Smackdown was the most impressive performance I saw last year. And one of the most dominant runs I've seen in quite a few years. You just know that DD and Steve Phillips are going to show up this year on a mission. Jon Stanbrough's going to be voted into the Sprint Car Hall of Fame soon after be becomes eligible. Indiana's the toughest non winged sprint car scene, by far. And for a decade or more, this great driver has been the biggest fish in this pond. The only thing that's eluded him has been the USAC National Championship. This year, he's paired with a team that is at least on level with the ones he won his National Driver of the Year awards with, when he was with Fox and Hazen. And also a team that has the resources and is committed to travel and give Jon whatever he needs. He deserves a championship and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he gets it. Kevin Thomas Jr won as many features last year as anybody did. He has what it takes to win on any night, but hasn't shown the consistency yet, that it takes to be a champion. But he's one year older and if he's willing to watch, listen and learn, he'll have a teammate that has those qualities, in spades. Chase Stockon is good enough to be a USAC National Champion. He doesn't have a lot of resources, but seemingly doesn't need to have, because night after night, he's battling it out with the top drivers and big teams. He take goods care of his equipment and does it at high speed. Brady Bacon is a top notch driver and drives for the team that had won more sprint titles than any other. They're also a threat. Clauson has to be the preseason favorite, but really expect that Dutcher's two drivers to put themselves into the battle with him and Darland. Jerry |
Re: usac sprint car 2014
there is way too much talent out there to even venture a wild guess at that one

Re: usac sprint car 2014
No WAY he will have a Sprint Cup Ride. I wish. good luck Dave.

Re: usac sprint car 2014
The first part of 2013 the Darland/ Phillips Team was figuring each other out. Now they know each other from the beginning! Look out! :8::8::8:

Re: usac sprint car 2014
Hoffman/Bacon also had a learning curve and new chassis going from Coil over to Four Bar also a few got away. They will be a threat.
KT, Stanbrough, Dutcher is rarely off and I've seen him make a car run good where I thought it impossible to run at all. Strange that I see it as a competition among themselves? BC, Certain drivers over the years have had the *Eye of the Tiger* and the ability to match. If any one driver I've ever seen compared to Vogler it would be BC. Sprint/Midget/Champ/Lighnting/Indy. I think BC might be a little cleaner driver but he's going to be there, you can count on that. Really wish Stewart would start a Indy team and give him the shot he deserves to have Stockon, If all tracks were 3/8ths and bigger, i doubt there'd be competiton. needs to work on the short game but I'd never count him out. Darland/Phillips, I hope several small or one large sponsor will come on board, Trips like the Oval Nationals cost more than they won and they won it and then split the winnings. No doubt they are capable of winning the championship. If it wasn't for a couple hiccups last year like terre Sprint crash trying for lead DNF and eldora which they salvaged a fifth after passing tons of cars in both consi and feature. They'd have won it in 13 no doubt in my mind. I see several drivers and teams capable of upsets at many tracks but not the championship. Stenslands, Hazen, Wes Mac, Hines, Coons, Weir, Tmez, Boesplug, Leary, Shu, MDC, Short and several others not on the top of my head. Best of luck to all teams and drivers for the most important thing, A SAFE 2014 :) |

Dutchers two car team would have to be the early season favorite I think. But the wild card will be this new tire and how long it takes to figure out. |
Re: usac sprint car 2014

Were going to give 100% and more to be in the run for 2014 Usac sprint car championship. That's our goal

Re: usac sprint car 2014
I would love to say DD, but it will be RW or TSR. What I would love to see is a true National Champion.... USAC left the pavement behind in a FAILED attempt to add more teams to the National title chase.... and last year they had 7 cars which chased points for an entire season!!! Another stellar move by the bozo from Detriot....

Re: usac sprint car 2014
Does anyone actually think teams would still be fielding both dirt & pavement cars to pursue the championship? Looks like nine or so contested it all this year...can't think more than 2 or 3 (if that) would have if they still ran both surfaces.

Re: usac sprint car 2014
7 Sprint car teams and 5 midget teams had 100% attendance last season. When both divisions had a Pavement/Dirt championship what year had less entries?
|
Re: usac sprint car 2014
Looks like 2010 had 6 sprint cars: Levi, Clauson, Hines, Gardner, Coons & Hines. In 2013, I see Clauson, Darland, Bacon, Stockon, Thomas, Hines, Ballou, Courtney, Drake.

Re: usac sprint car 2014
And let someone bring some kind of agruement into this thread. Does it really matter how many follow? A decent field usually shows up. Only the top 10 make the cut the ones who feel they are out of the running will not make the long hauls that are required sometimes when they can stay home and race 2 or 3 nights. Now let's get this thread back on track. Who does everyone else think will contend for the title this year?

So whats your point? WoO pays their top ten show up money, Is that the answer? Not to many follow a series once they fall out of a top five possibility. Maybe USAC should have Sprint Week in Sept? |

Re: usac sprint car 2014
a usac sprint week in ohio would be good in sept., what tracks besides Eldora and waynesfield? how bout attica (usac runs good there on the 1/3rd) I'd like to see em at skyline (I believe its called/ a round highbanked circular 3/8th bowl near Athens, which is extremely fast, the wing-ed guys turn 10 sec laps there on the 3/8ths) k c , which is now back to atomic (a more generic 3/8ths, but a good one) i'll let cha-a'll pick the rest

Re: usac sprint car 2014
How about a BOSS Ohio Sprint Speedweek in 2015? BOSS has built a good reputation with all the great Ohio dirt tracks. Good payout throughout the field each night, good tow money, and a good Point Fund for the Top 10.

Re: usac sprint car 2014
maybe a sept oh. sprint s/w boss-usac combo sprint car and midgets?
