IMW/ISW for dummies
So we're finally going to take the plunge and hit either Midget Week or Sprint Week for 2014. I know there are plenty on here that have or had followed the tour, your input is appreciated!

Sprint week>midget week.

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
Midget Week you get midgets and sprints, but less race days (good for wallet but bad for enjoyment), I think midget week is our plan for 2014, more bang for your buck on a budget. :)

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
My choice is Midget Week. A little less crowded and you see the same tracks with the exception of two (Terre Haute and Haubstadt). Agreed that the sprint portion isn't a USAC field but it's still a decent field of cars. The midget portion is the attraction and it makes for a great double dip. Midget week is something i can't pass up and now i have replaced my Sprintweek with Smackdown at Kokomo.

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
I would opt for midget week, also, because the program has both midgets and sprints. Much less hectic as well.

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
How is the traveling circus following for Midget Week? I'd venture to guess there were 30+ motor homes @ Kokomo for Sprint Week.

i didnt make this years midget week as i was working but last year the crowds where good just about half the campers (for the shows i went to) but still a pretty decent amount I bet the Kokomo sprint week show had close to 50 campers there. the parking lot looked like a camp ground

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
I say Sprint Week for a variety of reasons.
Some midget teams won't put there cars on the bigger tracks. Count goes from 45 at Gas City to 30 at Burg, Yet they could run 5 wide there and often do. Tri State and Terre Haute Aren't part of IMW a flippin track I'D LOVE TO SEE THEM ON along with sprints. Midget week, Midget money. 3000 to win, Really? The cars cost just as much and are more expensive to maintain and you pay the same price to get in. Granted there are sprints on the card. Weather. June is transitional and subject to more rain outs than mid july. IMW does have its Highlights, Some Kiwis and Aussies ship their cars up and run and its much appreciated to see names you only read about. But the overall Festive atmosphere, car counts and intensity of the event lies with Sprint Week!. |

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
Midget Week gets you 2 for 1 with the local sprint scene being the strongest on the planet. BUT, make sure the schedule does not conflict with POWERI, this year they are all getting along, but USAC has a history of stabbing people in the back and should POWERI schedule at the same time USAC only has about 8 teams. If that is the case Sprint Week is awesome!

I got it! Combined the two call it indiana open wheel week. I. O. W. W. cheaper for the teams and fans. :D

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
Midget week is better if you like smaller crowds, enjoy sprint cars as the support series, cooler weather and most tracks this year were $20. for general admission. On the down side: Campers are probably 1/3 in number compared to sprint week, decreasing the before and after parties. Wish midget week would add a few more tracks. The final race on Sunday at Kokomo in the Midget week also causes some scheduling problems. I have done both weeks traveling in the camper and enjoy both.

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
I personally think midget week has much better racing, nothing better then midgets going all out on Indiana bull rings plus you got the sprints as a support class but that's just me

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
How about places to stop in between tracks and or places to eat. The Half Moon will be at the top of our list in Kokomo of course...

Re: IMW/ISW for dummies
I'd add in POWRi Illinois midget week into your equasion. Having been to Illinois Midget week, and most of Indiana Midget week and Indiana Sprint week this year, honestly,it has been the best of all the "Weeks" so far this season, despite the final night rainout. It was POWRi's first attempt at an Illinois midget week, and I hear it good they will have another one next year. Stay tuned here for next years dates.
Lots of midgets, and as I recall,47 was the low number for the week, with the high being 55 at Macon. Good racing every night, everyone runs a heat, reasonable priced admission, they keep the program moving, they engage the fans into the program, and make you feel welcome that you came to watch.Everyone I talked to enjoyed Illinois Midget week, and the only bad thing I heard about it was they ran out of t-shirts early. Its already at the top of my list for next years races. |
