Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
What's the real chances of this race happening? Pics I saw looked like track was a long way from being ready and there are no stands. Any updates?:11:
|
This race will happen guareented. Yes there are no bleachers they have been taking them out do to insurance reasons. There is a huge hill side for seating so bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on. The mayor has spent thousands of dollars on this event and the go greensburg comittee has been working very hard to make this event a true success for the city. The mayor will have the racing surface in great shape for this event.
Admission is $5 for adults or $10 for a whole family pit pass $25. This race will happen no matter what. It is a shame that the city has put a ton of work and money for this event to make this a premeire event for the tqs and then people r getting on here saying it ain't going to happen. These people are just tring to ruin a great event the city of greensburg has put together Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
I dont recall seeing anybody saying this race wasnt going to happen or downing the efforts of the city. I posted pics of what I saw and expressed doubt, But also the first thing I said in that post was that I really hope this race happens. So not really sure why you are saying people are trying to ruin a great event.

Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
In no way did I mean to hurt the Greensburg race with my question.
I simply had a question as to the status because of the photos I saw on IOW last week. We just wanted to know for sure so other plans could be made in case something would happen. Race drivers want to race and a backup plan is needed. :6: |

Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
I'm pretty sure that the mayor is no stranger to getting behind the wheel of a race car, especially on dirt. As a matter of fact, he was a pretty good wheelman in a modified and late model, if memory serves me correctly. His brother Daryl may still be racing a modified and has had a lot of success. I remember watching them quite a few times. My parents were big fans of both of them. I think that it was mainly because my mother worked with Gary (@ Gecom) and I think my father dealt with one of them (I think Daryl) through his work.
Anyhow, I'll agree! It's really great to see him and the city putting so much effort into racing! I hope this event is a success! Sorry for being long-winded. Shawn |
Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
Thanks for asking that question, There is no fee, we just need to know your name and what you will be entering so we can get you signed up. Hope you can join us.

Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
I've known Gary since I was a young boy. My Dad worked on his race cars and his brother Daryl drove our car. With Gary supporting this and Terry Eaglin's group running the event, it should be a great success. My son and I will be there with our car for the parade and all the events leading up to and including the race. Can't wait to see you again Gary!

We are planning to be apart of the parade and festivities on the square before we head to "The Burg." Hoping for a beautiful day!
I remember when D.H. drove Roy's #67 Late Model back in the day! I have known Gary and Terry both, for years and promoted the SCORA Sprint Car Series race at Osgood with Terry in 2009. He was great to work with and I am sure this event will be a success! J.T. Stapp Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
Mayor Gary Herbert and his tourism director have put a lot of hard work and effort into this week-long event, and we certainly applaud and congratulate them for staging this motorsports-themed family event for the citizens of Greensburg and surrounding communities. Our drivers and car owners within UMRA, as well as those within the other organizations, appreciate all that the city of Greensburg has done in the past and is continuing to do to promote TQ midget racing.
Perhaps we'll even see the mayor in a TQ this weekend! |
Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
Scooter, any idea on pit pass costs, and if fuel will be available? Thanks!
|
Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
Its been posted that pit passes are $25.
I haven't heard anything on fuel. |
Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33

Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
Hoping this does not become an issue, but the weather isn't looking as good as it did a few days ago.
If Saturday is cancelled and moved to the rain date which is Sunday, will the car show and parade be Sunday as well or just the race? |
Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
hope the forecast changes for the turnout. high of 44, ouch.

Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
Greensburg is a town with very deep racing roots. Carl Fisher, one of the four gentlemen responsible for building the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, was born there. Former Indy 500 winner Wilbur Shaw lived there, and once flipped a bicycle in the city streets.
There has been racing at the county fairgrounds for many decades. With TQ racing, it goes back almost to the beginning. Mayor Gary Herbert, his brother Daryl, and father are long-time racers. They are good people. Daryl once loaned me an old driving uniform so I could drive a TQ. The one race I promoted in my life was at Greensburg, the Tree City Fall Festival Classic, in 1992. This is the kind of community that filled the grandstands that night, and when my track watering equipment broke down, the mayor at the time sent over the fire department with their trucks to help get the track in shape. There is not a bad location from which to watch a race. I have always thought this place had tremendous potential, with a little investment and tender loving care. It sounds like some of that is happening. Eliminating the old grandstands is most likely a blessing. My only regret is that I CANNOT BE THERE. Jim Morrison Editor Hawkeye Racing News |
Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
The mayor gary herbert called today to let us know the they have pushed the feature winner pay to $1000 to win plus the $20 a lap. They have raised 2nd place money to $600 and third place to $450. They are also paying $100 to the hard charger of the race. This is a great event put together by the mayor and the go greensburg comittee. Their hard work is greatly appreciated for all of us at the king of the tq midget series.
Thanks terry eaglin |

Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
I JUST spoke to Terry Eaglin.
The race has NOT been cancelled - yet. The mayor is the one making the call. He told Terry he will wait until 1:00 and then make a decision. |
Ok.

Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33

Nick its been pouring and storming here since before 10am and is still raining, so if they do run, there is no way I see the track being ready by 3, IMO.

Re: TQs set to race at Greensburg Indy 33
Actually, I thought it was just a little bit better, than normal, I've raced there since the late 50's, and it hasn't changed a whole lot, I found a rock, as big as a fist, in my floor pan when I washed the car this morning, and that wasn't unusual, dirt tracks are that way, especially those that see only occasional use, so I won't vote either way! Can someone please post the complete results with qualifying if possible. I would have loved to have been there, but could not get away.
Thanks. Posted via Mobile Device |
