Gregg Stabb
People,I just learned on a previous post about Gregg. I am so angry I can not grasp my feelings and make any sense. Gregg was an racer far more caring than anyone who has been down the street or coming in the future. And I am including the directors who are proving there is no one steering this ship. John Caples is the only one I can hold responsible. John tell me different. I am spending too much money to see you direct this stupid direction. Gregg Stabb bled sprint cars 24 hrs a day. Probably the most caring person to walk the hall way in USAC. Common sense that benifited us all in every way. Always a gentleman at the track and off. Never failed a phone call in a careing mood. This is probably the only person at the office who or could get in the trenches with you and make you feel like all the large amounts of money we were spending as car owners would turn into fun to satisfy our large investment.
I can tell you as one person who owns several USAC sprint cars and ran USAC races was because only of the treatment I received from Gregg. There were many other choices of different tracks to go to but I liked being around Gregg. Now that he is gone I am really confused what is going on after 44 years of USAC membeship(minus Vietnam and being a single parent with my son Boston). This remindes me of my son Boston (15) and running a 410 wing car at Lawerencegurg and meeting Gregg. There I was reasured of 100% help by Gregg as any question or help I needed. And he would always wink at you as Boston and I struggled for seat time. He would also ask if I had a great time. People we can not let this most fair and caring man leave this sport. It is really scary for me what is happening within USAC. Remember the new Mr. Miller could not even show up at the first USAC sprint race. At least I never seen him. Missed a great chance to show us he could be a real racer and not a head chopper. Am I making any since or just a really sad car owner who is missing something. I need help understanding to understand what I think is a giant blunder. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While on this subject will John Caples please inform us here just what job he maintains and what authority he has within USAC. John, long time friend, but you need to tell us your status within USAC and authority you use daily within USAC. I think we need to find out your real status. Please don't hide behind retirement statements. This is a big deal we know the truth about you daily, weekly and monthly status with USAC. As a member longer than you no one will let us know. We receive only spin that talks as a non profit business. Every one seems to hide behind this. This is a great web site to explain who, what, and where you are. Things are really changing at USAC and will someone please tell us what is going on and the direction is? Hurting, confused of the sport I love and given alot of money and time. Lynn |

Re: Gregg Stabb
Well said Lynn, the only time I think I ever actually talked to Greg was in the pits at Paragon before the flip that ended his career. He signed my Paragon Speedway souvenir T shirt. Made my day.

Re: Gregg Stabb
I would want to hear something official from USAC before lighting up this board with talk about this.

It may very well end up being true, but until we know for sure, it is just another ugly rumor started by poeple who live for that stuff! Me..........I am going to wait to see if it is true and why it happened, if it did, before saying anything about it. People need to remember, there are real people and feelings invovled in this stuf, not just recognizable names. Think before you post! |
Re: Gregg Stabb
Just spoke with Greg at 7:26am this morning as he was sitting in his USAC office working on his computer. As of this moment, he is still working at USAC.

Re: Gregg Stabb
Stopped by USAC yesterday and Greg was at work. ????

Re: Gregg Stabb
Lynn -
With all due respect given the decisions Kevin Miller has made since his arrival personally I would be surprised to learn that Mr. Capels orchestrated this apparent move. When you think of the personnel to leave USAC since November OS, BS, BD and there may be others I am unaware of, I find it hard to believe a person of Kevin Miller's stature would come from his previous job to USAC only to be Mr. Capels puppet. |
Re: Gregg Stabb
Still stand by what I said. Don't know if it's true or not but you can name numerous instances why Greg and a handful of others are the only reason USAC still exist and is actually for a change, GROWING

Re: Gregg Stabb
I'm with Dwight on this. I want it in black and white before we all start pointing fingers and getting upset.
Where did this "information" come from? I can tell you that Greg Staab is a fine person and is the hardest working man in racing IMO. I've always defended him when he got bashed for double booking shows. I say walk a mile in his shoes and you would understand better. I can't even imagine the stress level of his position. |
Re: Gregg Stabb
I was told last night at a Dinner by Rollie H. that Grag called him last week and told him next month would be his last month at USAC.

Re: Gregg Stabb
Well.. this is a sad day :( indeed if he is leaving USAC. A first class individual that always had an ear to listen to concerns. Wow.. this is a major step backwards  for racing.

Re: Gregg Stabb
I guarantee that if Stabb leaves or left USAC is was not by his choice. This man has been involved with USAC since he was 16 years old and has wanted nothing more than to have a place at USAC after he retired as a driver.
This chance came along after Jason Smith decided he could do better by starting his own series, yes in a round about way, Gregg replaced Jason. Now Jason Smith returned and brought his tag along Jason Mccord, the other co-founder that thought they could compete with USAC with their own Silver Crown Series, now we have a couple extra monkeys in the barrel. Between Kevin Miller, whos involement with USAC prior to coming to work for them includes reading about them in a office memo from his previous job, Jason Smith, who tried so hard to shove it up USACs back door with his own series a few years back, and Jason McCord, who used to drive but has basically become a tag along, Which one of these three guys really cares what happens to USAC? To them, USAC is a paycheck and believe it, those three will cut every corner they can just to squeeze every dime out of USAC to line their own pocket. Trust me when I say that there is NO ONE who cares more about USAC and sprint car racing than Gregg Stabb. He holds the best interest of our sport we all love very close to his heart. He has proved this with his 43 years of involment with USAC. Kevin, Jason and Jason, the Three Amigos, combined don't have half the time involved with the series as Gregg does. I know to alot of you this is BS and maybe I'm out of line for saying it, but I just can not figure out why someone with Greggs experience and knowledge of USAC and Sprint Car racing in general would be released, if it's true. |

Re: Gregg Stabb
If this rumor is true and Greg Staab leaves the USAC organization, then USAC is losing their only thread of credibility. Kevin Miller and the new USAC have already lost all credibility with owners and major stakeholders. There is no reason to participate if you have no respect of the management and the direction of the Club.
What a sad, sad day for grass roots open wheel racing. RIP. |
Re: Gregg Stabb
I agree with the posts by Blackduce, Jerry Spencer, DonMoore10, tracksideindy, and iconoclast.
Regardless of the reason Greg would be leaving, his departure will indeed be a huge loss to racers. I first met Greg many years ago when he and his father brought a Chevy II midget to Terre Haute. Yes, it was a yellow 44, same as always with Greg. Great people! :respect: |

When the new gen SC cars came about the former owners screamed they were left with no place to run So the Jasons listened to the car owners and gave them a place to run. Now the old SC cars are back under a USAC banner and the PRA is no longer around There is and never was a direct competion with USAC |
Re: Gregg Stabb
I refuse to comment any further until some sort of confirmation. however I have been given info off the boards and official info at that. That I would never post here without permission to do so.
A relayed message is what this was? Chuck |

Re: Gregg Stabb
Hey folks, Greg will let everyone know of his status when it becomes necessary. Until then, Greg is employed at USAC. The man has always revered that organization and even accomplished his dream of winning a USAC race (at IRP). They couldn't have a more dedicated employee. Shame on Mr.Miller if Greg's termination becomes fact but, as I speak to you now, Greg is a USAC employee. Nobody loves this sport more than Greg. Again, he's a USAC guy as of today. However!!! MSCS!!!! or any other organization, call this man!!! he'll build your organization. He is a tireless worker and he could sell you a jet-ski in Alaska or a snowmobile in Florida. USAC will wither on the vine without him. I'm tempted to get back in the promotion business and Greg will be my first hire if USAC let's him go!

Ok Its True Gregg Is Being Let Go! Sorry To Hear That Gregg Is A Friend Of Mine! Usac Needs A Lot Of Help!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Gregg Stabb
Greg is a USAC guy true and true. He's still there in his office. However, if rumors of his demise become fact, I will gladly team up with Greg to form a series that will benefit both fans and racers. I'm asking to let it all play out first guys! As I said this morning, Greg was at his desk when I spoke to him!!!!!!

"raise some brow's" is a understatement! USAC in the coming year will cut it's races to 1/3 it's current schedule and most if not all will be on pavement. Just wait and see!!!! |

New poster TrackSideIndy has posted 3 or so other comments between this thread and the one on the so-called "USAC firings" and I would believe ( from the total sum of opinion given ) that this guy presents an accurate assessment from a seemingly close view. To TrackSideIndy - " Welcome to IOW !! " :thumb |

Fuel for the Fire
Word around Speedway is that Greg will be there till the end of the month...then will move over to the other racing series in Speedway. |

Re: Gregg Stabb
Thank you pgray...I have been a long time reader of IOW and Trackforum, however, nothing in the past has got my attention quite like this situation has. Knowing Greg for several years, I felt obligated this time to voice my opinion and thats all it is "my opinion"! I'm a sprint car and USAC fan and I have a family member within USAC, could be a driver, owner, mechanic or even a employee, so to keep this family memeber from catching grief for "MY" opinion, it's best to keep my identity to myself.

Re: Gregg Stabb
IF this is a true fact about gregg stabb being let go from usac at the end of may. This is a big loss for usac he is one of hardest working people I have ever seen in the sport and knowing gregg he allways looks out for the racers as he once was his self. This is a man that has devoted his life to this sport and is allways looking ahead to make the sport better for fans and racers. Hope this is just a rumor .

Your identity is not important ; your unique insight is what got my attention and I felt certain that the opinion expressed was from someone close to this situation ... apparently I was right. It seems that Gregg will be leaving USAC and if this is by their choice , those that were looking for a rebirth of USAC through the new leadership need not look further or continue to hold hope for an improved organization. The handwriting is on the wall ... USAC will continue to be just a minor "club" in motorsports. Very sad , indeed. Many will find it difficult to be a :usacfan |
Re: Gregg Stabb
sucks about Stabb, but lets not all throw Jason Smith and Jason McCord (along with Bill Carey) under the bus just yet. All of them are really great people who certianly didn't have anything to do with said firings...
|
Re: Gregg Stabb
USAC will still move forward ! Kevin & the Jason's are a combination of marketing big busness and racers. Greg is doing a great job of getting races at different tracks and fixing sprintweek with double dates.
Klepper has a voice that should care him well on TV. We have seen big changes in racing and USAC before, It still keeps tickin" !!! The seas are rough right now but lets see where and what USAC becomes at years end. Everybody claimed a need to change over the years. Well race fans change has come and lets see where it goes ? Re: Gregg Stabb
Since my post on Friday morning I have had the opportunity to speak with someone at USAC and briefly with Gregg Staab at Brownstown. Gregg is understandably heartbroken over this. To him I can only say THANK YOU for your tireless efforts to make our sport better. I sincerely wish that you find a place in racing that makes you happy and allows us as fans to continue to reap the benefits from your love of our sport. As for USAC we need to remember, as D.O. stated, that change was promised when the new regime assumed their positions Dec. 1st. "Right the ship" was a term used. The very nature of that job suggests that not all decisions made would be popular ones. This decision is incredibly unpopular. Let's just see where it goes and not let our emotions dictate our thinking.

Re: Gregg Stabb
i know greg very well and working with usac was a big part of his dreams sad that they will let someone go like him he is one of the must hard-working people i know.
