I am really considering going to the four crown this year, as this will be my first trip over to Eldora, any comments or suggestions?

Eldora is a fantastic facility and a great place to see a race when the track is prepped right.
Unfortunately, the last several shows I have seen at the place have been atrociously dusty, culminating with the spring race this year which had to be called off due to abysmal track prep. I am not planning on going back anytime soon.... Still, I hope the 4 Crown turns out to be fantastic this year. That might give me confidence to head back to the Big E for some shows next year. |
Re: 4 crown nationals
The Track was awesome at the last non-wing race... The 4 crown is a great race.... the is normally slick because if all the racecars and starting early but its is worth coming to! The april race was a joke but the has been fixed and better then before all year!

Re: 4 crown nationals
Cant be that far from good.. because the Midgets and Silvercrown are going to qualify in between the WOO show on friday.. then rest of 4 crown sat.. If i read that correctly.. Should be a helluva show..

Re: 4 crown nationals
Bring an Oxygen supplied full-face respirator!! I wasn't going but me and the misses recieved our respirators today in the mail. :2:
I honestly believe after last years 4-crown and the fiasco in April, the track should be good. ( I hope) |
Re: 4 crown nationals
I've been back since April and the track has been fine. If midget and silver crown qualifying are moving to Friday that will certainly help.

Re: 4 crown nationals
I am going....It is a premiere event....all the complainers about the dust....here is a little advice....check the flags when you get there and put the wind at your back....or rent a suite.... just sayin....

Re: 4 crown nationals
Not to mention the addition of Little E this year. A 1/7th mile kart track, and a 1/4 midget track inside of it. The weekend of the 4 Crown will be the inuagural USAC 1/4 midget dirt nationals.

Re: 4 crown nationals
Love the 4 Crown race, it was better when it was a 2 day deal, modifieds even put on a good show. But 1 day NW will allow me to skip the motel bill. Going to try & make it back this year. Bring Goggles or a helmet as the last time we dogged rocks. Got hit inside my right leg with a hugh clump mud. Couple inches to the left I would be singing up front w/ the gals - ouch.

Re: 4 crown nationals
I've found racetracks to be like movies, everyone has a different view of what they are like.
I haven't been to Eldora this year, so I couldn't comment on the dust. Just remember some of these posters are never happy. Get a pizzaburger, walk through the love tunnel and be grateful to see two days of racing at the end of the season. The winters suck way worse then being at a dusty racetrack. |

The makeup event for the April show was some of the best racing I've seen @ Eldora without the wings. Track was wet and fast all night and got real racey for the feature. SOme of you peeps need to quit whining so much and just go enjoy a night of racing! I'll be there

Why is it that USAC has to be at the "Four Crown" for 2 days, but the WoO only has to show up on Friday? I'm sorry but I think Eldora management has totally F'ed up the "Four Crown". I hate to pile on, and this has nothing to do with USAC, but this has been stewing inside me for awhile now. This event is supposed to be a showcase of USAC's premiere divisions- I don't have a problem at all with WoO being a part of the event, just make them conform to the old format (2 Day show) that everyone loves! How many people that are going to the "Four Crown" this year, will be at another racetrack on Friday (ie. Gas City)? My guess is alot. Why can't people listen to their customers anymore?
I take a large group of people, who rarely go racing, with me to this event every year. Every year it seems like I'm "covering" for the track for some reason or another, in an attempt to keep my friends from becoming disenchanted. I like them coming with me, but it seems as the years go by, they come more and more because I want them to, instead of them simply loving the "Four Crown". I know it sounds like I'm just spouting off, but I only typed this whole damned thing out because I care. I hope Eldora Speedway can get the Four Crown Nationals back to being one of the biggest events in the country. |
Last i heard the friday deal isn't going to happen. But what do i know i just show up and wrench on the cars.

Re: 4 crown nationals
From the Eldora website:
ELDORA/USAC ANNOUNCE LINE-UP CHANGE FOR ANNUAL FOUR CROWN ROSSBURG, OH (July 30) – In an effort to present the annual Four Crown Nationals under the best possible track conditions, Eldora Speedway officials, in conjunction with officials from the United States Auto Club (USAC), have announced a change in this year’s format. This year’s event, the 30th annual, will be contested Friday and Saturday, September 24 & 25. When the travelling World of Outlaw (WoO) Sprint Cars joined the popular weekend in 2007, the entire USAC portion of the Four Crown was moved to Saturday. Their busy schedule of Silver Crown, Sprint Car and Midget divisions necessitated a start in mid-afternoon, which often resulted in less than desirable daytime track conditions. To avert that situation, the schedule has now been revamped to include the preliminary hot lap and time trial sessions for the USAC National Midget and Silver Crown divisions as part of the Friday line-up, in conjunction with the full WoO program. That move will allow Saturday’s starting time slot to be moved back considerably and allow track crews ample time to prep the racing surface for USAC’s three major non-winged touring divisions. Saturday’s menu will include the hot laps, time trial runs and preliminary heats for the Sprint Cars, along with the Midget heats. B-Mains and feature races for each division will wind up the show. Multiple satellite events are slated, including the Jack Hewitt charity roast on Thursday evening in the Eldora Ballroom and the traditional USAC autograph session on Saturday afternoon in the Eldora fanzone. Another time honored tradition for the weekend is the appearance of the Vintage American Race Cars with their restored race cars on and off the track. |

The track will be dry slicked off on saturday too, that's to much racing on that surface, they screwed that track when they added foreign (non eldora) clay. We got screwed out of a good usac show in April and their last show there mother nature prepped the track. so good luck to tracey hines and his crew finding the set up. ;)

Re: 4 crown nationals
Judging by Tony's current flavor of the month, I'd say the wings are staying for a bit.http://www.apexonephoto.com/World-of...84_BTKDS-M.jpg

Not to put down non wing racing, but I doubt many people or late models would show up for a one night show. Not too many successful nonwing/fender races in the past. Eldora has a few races you may have heard about, the Dream, the World 100 and the UMP Nationals that cover mods and late models. Last year the nationals had around 100 cars in each division. I might add, I am not one for tradition and this race has bounced around different divisions for years.
This is the same weekend as: September 23, 24, 25 --- 31st Annual Jackson 100 Weekend Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series $20,000 to win at Brownstown Speedway. Who wouldn't want to see Brad Sweet compete in all four divisions? |
