Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULY 27, 2010

USAC ANNOUNCES ENHANCEMENTS TO 2010 SILVER CROWN SCHEDULE

The United States Auto Club has announced several schedule modifications to the 2010 Silver Crown Championship slate, including the addition of the “Rollie Beale 150” at the Toledo (Ohio) Speedway October 16 and the rescheduling of the rain-postponed “Sumar Classic 100” at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track, now scheduled for October 9. Along with these announced schedule additions, the Oswego, N.Y. race originally scheduled August 4 has been cancelled.

“We are pleased to announce the series’ debut at Toledo, which has been an exciting racing venue for our pavement sprints and midgets for many years and the new date for the “Sumar Classic 100,” added Jason Smith. Senior Vice President of USAC Racing. The return of the “Sumar Classic” to Terre Haute continues a tradition begun in 1995 while the Toledo race builds on USAC’s heritage at the Ohio oval while inaugurating a brand-new Silver Crown tradition on the popular season-ending date at the Speedway.”

Beale won the USAC National Sprint Car Championship in 1973 and recorded 32 feature victories during his USAC career. In addition, he competed in numerous USAC Silver Crown races and served for several years as USAC’s Silver Crown and Sprint Car Chief Steward.

The USAC Silver Crown Championship Series now turns its focus to the August 12 race at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich., another race new to the USAC schedule in 2010.

Yes, officially, another race that I can attend since it isn't when I am working.

Isn't that the same weekend as the Brownstown FunFest too?

Would Toledo be kind of a small track for Silver Crown cars? I have never been to the Toledo track but just wondering. In any event I'm glad to hear they have both Terre Haute and Toledo on the schedule.

ARCA runs the full size stockers there and it's a really good show, should be a good track for the silver crown cars maybe better than IRP

I'm not a Silver Crown expert, much too young to be a "Champ Car" expert.... But I've been going to Toledo for my entire life, it's a high banked half mile. The AVSS and ISMA/MSA Super shows are always packed. The USAC Sprint/Midget show was this year as well. I'm hoping it doesn't get too cool in October, and that with so few races around some of you Hoosiers will make the trip up. I must admit I have never seen Silver Crown cars on pavement and I will be at this race. The ARCA shows are always good, lots of passing. Toledo is a great track, great lighting, close to I-75.

Funny twist on how dropping a race at the last minute becomes a "Schedule Enhancement" You will never see the big cars back at Oswego after this, if I was a fan near Berlin I would be worried as well.

Hmm. I have to think about that one. Maybe if it was a bit bigger.

Well, I can tell you that for me personally, it is a "Schedule Enhancement" . There was no way for me to go to Oswego, but I at least have a chance to see them at Toledo Speedway, which is only 205 miles from my house.:6:

Not "worried" but defintely hoping they come. The PRA series put on a good show when they were there.

On the Sumar, I like Oct 9 because it ties in perfectly with a fall trip we were working on.

I don't think it will be much of a decision. I will probably drive right past Terre Haute on my way to Belle Clair. I could see this show not happening again with USAC promoting it.:15:

I would not worry about the Berlin race. If I hear them warming up. I'll walk over. Berlin just had a front office shake up. Will wait and see if it is for the better or not. I just hope the crown cars make the trip up. Bring some midgets along too. Lol

Well i guess sitting out in Az you wouldnt see a schedule enhancement. I've been to the SC races at PIR, if it was supported it would still be running. Glad they rescheduled THAT and Toledo might be interesting.

If this comes to pass, does it mean bye-bye to the Silver Crown race and maybe to the oval at IRP. :13:

Thurs - USAC Silver Crown
Fri - Trucks
Sat - Nationwide goes to the Speedway...

Earlier in the year, IRP has its own Nationwide race

No Nationwide in St. Louis next year

They better be working on fixing the problems that exist. NASCRAP is the biggest problem and apparently the car owner's feel the need to get involved. They met this week in Charlotte to add their input.:3:

In case they didn't notice, so many speedways that race NASCRAP events, have numerous empty seats on raceday. With that being said, TV rating should be rising to new heights.:14: Oh wait, they have also seen a double digit drop so apparently the "product" might be at least part of the problem?:18: Go figure.:29:

If they do take the Nationwide race away from ORP, I don't see a mass increase in attendance at the speedway for this race. IMS is a terrible place to watch a race. Why take a successful (25+ years) short track race off of the schedule to have it at a track you can't see but 1/2 of the race. They need to keep a long term, successful show intact and worry about not creating more problems. They will currently be looking for a new "home" for both the Nationwide race and the Camping World race that Gateway is "giving" (dumping) back.:19:

Actually John, right now I am sitting in Oswego not Arizona and was certainly looking forward to next weeks race. Don't get me wrong I am glad to see THAT rescheduled and Toledo added for the owners and drivers sake, cost effectively I hate to see them lose a race for any reason. However, I feel USAC dropped the ball on the Oswego race, they say they knew right after last years race that Kasey did not want to promote a race this year. They went ahead an scheduled a race for Oswego this year, if I am not mistaken the USAC schedule came out in Dec. last year that gave them basically 8 months to find someone to promote the race. I have mentioned on here a number of times since getting to Oswego that USAC returning to Oswego was the best kept secret out there. It is the same thing when they come to the Phoenix area, you see virtually no press until the day of or possibly the day before an event.

Last years race at Oswego drew about 8,000 people between the granstands and pit admissions, at least that is the figure I have heard circulating around Oswego. USAC cancelled this years race without even as much as a reason being given, the cancellation was buried in this schedule enhancement announcement. IMO if USAC had secured the funding to pull this race at Oswego off, then rescheduled THAT and added Toledo that would have been an enchancement. Cancelling a race isn't an enhancement espically a race that was so successful last year. I guess you could say one enchancement for the teams is they won't have to travel as far to Toledo as Oswego.

I love the Silver Crown Cars and am surely bummed they are not coming to Oswego next week!

Re: Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements

July 8th was Illiana Silver Crown
July 8th was LaSalle WoO by Kasey Kahne
Strange booking?

Wasn't Kasey a part of last years Oswego SIlver Crown along with Newman and Stewart ???

Seems like this might figure into everything somehow?

Maybe Kasey is upset?

:35:

D. O., as far as I know Kasey promoted last years race called "The Kasey Kahne Steel Palace Classic" and Ryan Newman drove Eric Gordon's second car in the race. While Tony Stewart has spent allot of time in the central N. Y. area over the past several weeks to the best of my knowledge he was not at the race last year or involved in any way. This week Tony was at SU shooting baskets with the SU coach, earlier in the month he ran sprint races at Cayuga County Fairgrounds, Can Am Speedway and Utica-Rome Speedway.

Maybe Kasey is upset, USAC still had a year from last years race to find someone else to promote the race and be sure that they had the support of their car owners and teams.
