Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULY 27, 2010 DICK JORDAN USAC ANNOUNCES ENHANCEMENTS TO 2010 SILVER CROWN SCHEDULE The United States Auto Club has announced several schedule modifications to the 2010 Silver Crown Championship slate, including the addition of the “Rollie Beale 150” at the Toledo (Ohio) Speedway October 16 and the rescheduling of the rain-postponed “Sumar Classic 100” at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track, now scheduled for October 9. Along with these announced schedule additions, the Oswego, N.Y. race originally scheduled August 4 has been cancelled. “We are pleased to announce the series’ debut at Toledo, which has been an exciting racing venue for our pavement sprints and midgets for many years and the new date for the “Sumar Classic 100,” added Jason Smith. Senior Vice President of USAC Racing. The return of the “Sumar Classic” to Terre Haute continues a tradition begun in 1995 while the Toledo race builds on USAC’s heritage at the Ohio oval while inaugurating a brand-new Silver Crown tradition on the popular season-ending date at the Speedway.” Beale won the USAC National Sprint Car Championship in 1973 and recorded 32 feature victories during his USAC career. In addition, he competed in numerous USAC Silver Crown races and served for several years as USAC’s Silver Crown and Sprint Car Chief Steward. The USAC Silver Crown Championship Series now turns its focus to the August 12 race at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich., another race new to the USAC schedule in 2010. --USAC-- |

Re: Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements
Would Toledo be kind of a small track for Silver Crown cars? I have never been to the Toledo track but just wondering. In any event I'm glad to hear they have both Terre Haute and Toledo on the schedule.

Re: Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements
Funny twist on how dropping a race at the last minute becomes a "Schedule Enhancement" You will never see the big cars back at Oswego after this, if I was a fan near Berlin I would be worried as well.

Re: Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements
can't wait for this Toledo show. maybe usac will run a regional midget show with them also. great fast pavement track. hopefully we will have a nice fall night for the usac midwest curtain closer.

On the Sumar, I like Oct 9 because it ties in perfectly with a fall trip we were working on. |
Re: Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements
A Fall Silver Crown race... at Terre Haute... awesome, especially if they start it relatively early

Re: Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements
I would not worry about the Berlin race. If I hear them warming up. I'll walk over. Berlin just had a front office shake up. Will wait and see if it is for the better or not. I just hope the crown cars make the trip up. Bring some midgets along too. Lol

Re: Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements
If this comes to pass, does it mean bye-bye to the Silver Crown race and maybe to the oval at IRP. :13:

In case they didn't notice, so many speedways that race NASCRAP events, have numerous empty seats on raceday. With that being said, TV rating should be rising to new heights.:14: Oh wait, they have also seen a double digit drop so apparently the "product" might be at least part of the problem?:18: Go figure.:29: If they do take the Nationwide race away from ORP, I don't see a mass increase in attendance at the speedway for this race. IMS is a terrible place to watch a race. Why take a successful (25+ years) short track race off of the schedule to have it at a track you can't see but 1/2 of the race. They need to keep a long term, successful show intact and worry about not creating more problems. They will currently be looking for a new "home" for both the Nationwide race and the Camping World race that Gateway is "giving" (dumping) back.:19: |

Last years race at Oswego drew about 8,000 people between the granstands and pit admissions, at least that is the figure I have heard circulating around Oswego. USAC cancelled this years race without even as much as a reason being given, the cancellation was buried in this schedule enhancement announcement. IMO if USAC had secured the funding to pull this race at Oswego off, then rescheduled THAT and added Toledo that would have been an enchancement. Cancelling a race isn't an enhancement espically a race that was so successful last year. I guess you could say one enchancement for the teams is they won't have to travel as far to Toledo as Oswego. I love the Silver Crown Cars and am surely bummed they are not coming to Oswego next week! Patti |
Re: Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements
July 8th was Illiana Silver Crown
July 8th was LaSalle WoO by Kasey Kahne Strange booking? Wasn't Kasey a part of last years Oswego SIlver Crown along with Newman and Stewart ??? Seems like this might figure into everything somehow? Maybe Kasey is upset? :35: |
Re: Usac Announces Schedule Enhancements
Quote:
Maybe Kasey is upset, USAC still had a year from last years race to find someone else to promote the race and be sure that they had the support of their car owners and teams. Patti |
