normally I'd watch but I've basically turned off daytona and been enjoying the NCAA basketball on ESPN and so on, it's not as hard to mute the danica commercials as it is to mute a whole race...... Never in history has someone so below average been given this much praise and hype. She might help ratings for a couple of races but look how lousy the IRL ratings are even with little miss media... is it spring yet? think I'll wait untill I can go see some REAL racing at my local short track!

She is still the only woman to ever win an IRL race, she finished 3rd at the Indianapolis 500 last year and fifth in points for the season. Does that mean that former Champion and Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan and everyone else in the IRL who didn't do as well as she in points really suck, or what?

Her Points standings have steadily improved every year from the time she started, which means she is still learning. I believe, with all of her accomplishments as a woman in racing, even if she had never posed in a bikini, there would still be a lot of hype surrounding her. The attention is well earned and well deserved.
Danica Patrick IRL Championship standings:
2005--12
2006--9
2007--7
2008--6
2009--5
IRL stats from 2005 through 2009--Laps led 110; Races 81; Poles 3; wins 1; Top 5 finishes 16; Top 10 43

All good points. But is a top ten in the IRL when you race for one of the three teams who did/can win any races that great? Better then all of the no starts in any races I have made...

It's also funny that a post about Tony Stewart being a smart ass, can turn into a Danica defender thread.

It's winter for most of us, and TV racing can be unbearable without Danica. Since many of us last went to a race in October, we seem to forget how much of an overload Daytona and February can be. It happens every year.

I long for that mid June race I'm at every year, where I can't remember anything about NASCAR. Just everyday poor racers, poor race fans and the blistering heat of an infield without any shade for miles...

Your point being what?

Hornish had far more accomplishments than her and got very little coverage hen he went over.

I fixed your post for you and no thank you's are needed.

Tony is just as guilty. It was a year or two ago that he asked on the radio under the yellow how his "future wife" finished at the 500.

I have to agree that the hype is a little over the to, but she does draw fans and ratings.

I disagree. Hornish got quite a bit of coverage when he went. Not nearly as much as Danica, true, but she is MUCH more of a story, just because no matter what she does, the media is all over it.

Oh, and Hornish did get coverage, but has basically stunk the place up. They don't call him sideways sam for nothing:2:

Ahh Dale JR ring a bell for too much media and not that great a driver. NACRAP is stale. How many times can you say Martin is Old, Jimmy wins a lot, Tony owns his own team and JR sucks. Pretty old and stale. Danica is fresh news.

That sums it up. Retired people have experience. They're also old and out of date. The idea that they are suitable to be broadcasters is ludicrous.

I know nothing about football, baseball or basketball but from watching the network "jack of all trades" anchors cover racing, I 've learned they know nothing about anything. They really have no credibility in covering racing.

I don't really watch IRL too often but I'm already sick of the "that was fun", "The fans were really cool at the fan forum Q & A I did! Thanks!" quotes from Danica. Also the stomping her feet walk down pit road is a little tired.

Green race cars are bad luck. We'll see it in the Danica 300 today and the 500 with Mark Martin tomorrow.

But yea, I'm with ya on green. Hate it!

You have to admit Danica has one heck of a PR company. The IRL should hire them or better yet USAC and maybe they would grow in popularity.

Wondering if Danica happens to have a top-ten finish today in the Nationwide race -- what will all you pundits have to say?

"She was driving the best car..."

Really? better than Jr's and Kyle Busch's and Stewart's?

"She was lucky..."

Really? at Daytona... for a rookie?

Just watch the race -- she may (or may not) surprise us all. Either way, she's at Daytona racing today and we're not...

Well, Bryan Clauson set a pretty high bar for a rookie at Daytona. Of course, he can't even get a damn ride because of crap like this...

Did anyone notice that there was another female in the race :11: Rusty Wallace's daughter. She's starting out just like her brother :17:

When Danica got collected in the wreck, it became "All Danica" in the replays. They even ran constant updates for her along the bottom of the screen. Lets see what Danica could do against Erica Santos in a midget, sprint, or super or any of the other female drivers running in USAC. I think they would give her a run for the win every time. I'd love to see what she could do in average equipment. Seeing she's average in top equipment

Lets hope for a safe season :6:

That was Rusty's niece, Michael Wallace's daughter Christy Wallace.

It's Rusty's niece. Mike Wallace's daughter. The nepotism in racing has been there forever and while many people don't like it I kind of understand it. At least if someone's gonna wreck your stuff, it might be better if they are related to you. We all treat racing as a family sport and so do the wealthy.

I agree the Danica coverage is a bit much.

Sorry REH24, I started reading something else before I pressed post...

Agreed. BC got a fifth or sixth at Daytona and he get rewarded with riding the pine while while the Krisiloff kid buys his way into a few races and underwhealms the railbirds and Mr. Judd further proving that he needed to be back in the IRL. I hope Bryan can get back to his ultimate goal. It would be fun to root for BC, Josh and Ricky in Nayionwise.

Someone should have asked Smoke what it was like to win the Nationwide race and be nothing more than a footnote.

Watched "Windtunnel" Sunday night and Dave Despain said most of the emails he got were negative towards "the gurl". DW said that she would help sponsorship for other teams and that she could drive. I disagree, everyone watched her debut (ARCA ratings up 60% but, 60% of what number) IMHO those were probably curios IRL fans. I doubt these ratings increases last very long. The Nationwide race showed that she has a lot of work to do just to be any sort of competitive.

DW did a lot of dancing around Despain's question about why didn't Nelson Piquet Jr get more notice when he drove a heck of a race for the first time in the truck race.

Dont indy cars virtually drive themselves? I mean all you do in those is push a button to save fuel. Or "set the speed control" for pit lane. They have so much down force you hardly have to do anything. My honest opinion is that those cars are a joke, and we will soon find out that she will be a joke in stock cars. And didnt the one race she won in IRL turn out to be a fuel mileage race?

Yea, you get in one at any track and let us see you let it
"virtually drive themselve".:3::5::3::5:;)

You talk about DW? Are you referring to Dip Wad Waltrip? He and brother Mikey do nothing but talk to hear themselves rattle. Dip Wad is a shill and a doofuss and nothing more. I love the clip of him after he won the Daytona 500 with his cap on sidways and doing his stupid dance. He always could dance.:5: A real classy picture.:3: He is NASCRAP's pimp on the boob tube.:15:
