Lawrenceburg Track Pictures

A friend of mine was at the Burg today and said the banking in turn 1 & 2 is like Winchester. He spoke with the Designer of the new track. He said they have 2 feet of clay to lay down on top of the turns and that they are spending way more than 2 million. Infield is going to be all grass plus many more neat items like stands around turns 1 & 2.

Have pictures but do not know how to insert them.

Before you can post a picture it has to be somewhere on the WWW already. Go to one of the free sites (like www.photobucket.com) and post the pics there first.

Once you have them on another site you can use the "Insert Link" button.

Was down there tues and the closest track I could compare it too would be KC when it's done.

Not sure but they had raised the outside of the track by about 4 ft then around 1-2 and backstraight.

The constuction is right on schedule and moving along nicely. The total cost will be over 2.5 Million for the improvements this winter. There is another seperate project going on behind the grandstands. The ditch that runs east to west through the fairgrounds is being filled in with drainage piping and such. That project was well over a million be itself. With this ditch being gone it will give us more parking and keep kids on Quads from getting hurt....Right Bob!!
Take care, Dave Rudisell

The banking is actually Steeper than it looks. Architech said that the track is also going to be very wide even though it does not look like it yet.

Thanks for the pics!

The banking must be really steep because it looks quite steep enough already in the 3rd picture.

When I was there it looked as if they had raised the top of the turns about 4ft. and leveled from the top of the track all the way around where the wall used to be for Grandstands and maybe patio/parking in 1-2

Re: Lawrenceburg Track Pictures

Chuck,

I saw the site plan at the banquet. It would be nice if the architect/design firm could turn it into a PDF for Dave so we could get it posted on the website.

Going off of my memory:
The outside of turns 1 & 2 will be raised up about a dozen steps or so and the stands that used to be in that area will be rotated more towards turn 2 with 1 more section being added. This will open up the area more at the concession stands. And you won't be able to see the racetrack from outside the fence anymore.

RV parking (I think this was raised too) along the backstretch. I don't recall seeing any other parking areas but this one.

Since there will be a wall all around the track now you will exit the racing surface off of the backstretch (just past the RV parking area and before turn 3). It looked to be about a 45* angle with walls on both sides. It is only 12' wide. Dave told me that they will be installing the Safer Barrier in that area.

As you exit the track you can make an immediate left to go to the new 30' x 60' tech building (sits outside of turn 3). If you don't need to go to tech you will continue straight and then turn left around the back of the building to head to the pits.

The entrance to the track is going to stay the same (turn 4) but the area between the pits and grandstands will be fenced a little differently. To get into the grandstands you will not be able to walk in the area in front of the pit grandstands (you will have to go behind).
Like I said this is just from memory from something that I saw 2 months ago. So Dave if you see this and I have anything wrong speak up.

Sandy

Re: Lawrenceburg Track Pictures

I will have the plans of the speedway at the Hoosier racers swap meet and trade show, also at the Gathering before the green in indy next weekend. The banking of the track is nowhere near complete. The banking will be 15 degrees in the turns and 4 degrees on the straightaways. Turns 1 and 2 will house 3 of the smaller grandstands that were in the turns 1 and 2 area and be elevated 15 feet. 2 more new grandstand will be installed in turn 2, these new grandstands seat more than the smaller ones did. The one extra section of grandstands will go in turn 3 for pit spectating.
Thanks, Dave

Re: Lawrenceburg Track Pictures

I saw the plans the other day and they are amazing. One of the plans showed the old track and the new track over top of it and it really doesn't look that much longer. It looks like there are better straights and the track looks wider. It sounds like the infield will be great with winners circle, dirt mounds, a couple of small ponds, sodded and landscaped. The only question I have is where is the clay coming from DAVE?

Thanks,
Shane

Ric Schwarm of Cincinnati Go-Kart fame!! I see you're also resurrecting the memory of the once great Greg Staab in your avatar! :emote20:

Re: Lawrenceburg Track Pictures

Cecil/Craig: As you know I worked with Greg For over 10 years from USAC midgets (Edmunds / Sesco thru Sprint cars. Had many great years with Greg and we had a great time. I am glad Greg got the job with USAC and I hear he's doing a great job. Oh, by the way Go-Karts were along time ago. Also, I've lived in Tampa for the last 11 years and I miss all the races.

Re: Lawrenceburg Track Pictures

Ric, I met you through Greg. You were helping Greg in his glory years and helped him win a bunch of races. Greg has, indeed, found his niche with USAC. He's doing a great job with them. It's the perfect job for an ex-racer who is too old and too sane drive anymore.:emote20: Won't see you down at East Bay this year. Since they dropped the non-wings I've decided to stay home and save the money for the coming season up here.

PS....I went down to L'Burg a couple of hours ago. If the roughout of turns 1 and 2 is close to the final banking, it's going to be frighteningly fast, unless, they let it slick off a little. Should be an interesting year!

I fear that more banking makes the money guys that much better off and makes the racing a lot less exciting. When we ran Lima in the late 80's ( yes I am old I know) you couldn't hit the outside wall if you tried it was banked so steep. Any track I have ran with high banking, turns the track into a motor track. You are already doing this to some extent with the lenghtening of the straights. Also the high banked tracks do not see side by side racing. Most times you either can clear a guy or you have to get back in line there is no side by side lap after lap racing. Not bashing just concerned but willing to give anything a chance.

Hope all turns out well and track stays smooth for some good wheel to wheel racing all year long.

Cecil 98, No, I won't be going to East Bay either. They are only having 2 days of 410's paying $3,000 to win. Not worth it. My friend Ken from Cincinnati is coming down in March. We're going to the 12 hours of Sebring that week. A really good race to go to.

ric, i may come down some time in the next couple of years and do the sebring deal with you. sounds like a good time. i've been going down to East Bay to watch the non-wingers the last two years and had a great time (ran into you once, didn't i?). however, i expected them to be dropped because the crowds were disappointing. my buddy, jim, lives in miami beach so, i stay there a few days and soak up some sun and then we head up to tampa for the sprinters. i'm going to miss that.

Sebring's a good race to go to. (Not sprint cars, but what the heck) You can walk the whole track and you have complete access to all the pits.

This is what concerns me as well, not to mention the fact that bigger, faster means less forgiving. I liked the Lburg track before because it seemed like a good place for people to start, with no walls it was forgiving. Make a mistake jump the berm, come back out. With High banks and walls, Make a mistake and your loaded up and heading home at least for the smaller budget guys. I'm hoping for the best but will dearly miss the bullring.

Re: Lawrenceburg Track Pictures

Stopped by again today one week after last weeks report. OMG, That four ft of raising that outside of turns one and two is now about 12ft or the equivalant of the hight of the restroom roofs gutters, You can't see anything inside the outter fence. A nice brick wall encloses this patio (Grandstand plaza) and I would assume the top of the track lies about 4ft below that patio. Viewing from the backstraight about all you can see is turn four, Everything else is pretty much unrecognizable as THE BURG. These turn one/Two grandstands are probably going to start about the highth of the eight row of the main grandstand.

I think people will be not amazed but SHOCKED when this is done. Gotta give props to Cunningham who stopped by. Although not much was being done on the track today with a inch of snow, They were working on the wall, Sewage and final shaping of the top of the turn one area with a ramp down to the outside the track restroom area in turn two.

Simply amazing.
