Re: best track 2008??

Here is mine for dirt tracks only.

1)Kokomo-Best weely racing in Indiana:respect:

2)Bloomington-I love the red clay and the hillside seating. Also you can bring your own cooler.:thumb

3)Lawrenceburg-The Penthouse of dirt tracks in Indiana. Also, Section "A" is the only place to sit. Coolers allowed as well.:thumb

4)Belle Clair-Best midget track that I have ever seen. Old fairgrounds atmosphere.:thumb

5)Tri State-Best track prep equipment but unfortunately it is a tough drive for me. We lose an hour on the way home and no good way to get there.

6)Eldora-I love the action on the half mile. I hope they can get the track prep dialed in this year.:(

7)Waynesfield-Neat little track out in the middle of a corn field. If you build it they will come.:applaud:

8)Gas City-Very fan friendly but the seating is horrible for an old codger with bad knees. Just glad that they stayed open and the old man will have to suffer a little to see some great racing.

9)Talladega Short Track-Red clay and the worst boiled peanuts I have ever eaten.:O: Nothing like a little southern style, hillbilly, redneck racin.:rolling The rebel flags flys in the breeze. Yee Haa.

10)Brownstown-Another fairgrounds speedway that takes you back in time. I just wish they would run some open wheel stuff.

Honorable mention: Terre Haute-It's called the Action Track for a reason. This is another track that with the right promoters will do well. A little TLC should do it.

Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway-A very nice tri oval dirt track. However, they mostly run late models and mortifieds. I would love to see an open wheel show there.

Fremont Speedway-Another fairgrounds track that runs multiple open wheel shows on a regular basis.

6) Haubstadt (I don't get there very often, brutal drive)
7) Angel Park (was only there once, hope to get back this summer)
8) Ventura (on the ocean, great view)

Re: best track 2008??

1. Kokomo-Best weekly; & Haubstadt (there is a reason Tom won promoter of the year two years in a row).
3. Indy Motor Speedway (I know, this is apples and oranges)
4. Granite City
5. Jacksonville (try it, you'll like it)
6. Bloomington
7. Gas City & Lawrenceburg

Also went to East Bay (the racing itself, due to the drivers and sometimes good track preparation, was usually very good. Can't say much about everything else, such as announcing, concessions, seating, promotion, etc.), Anderson, THAT, Indy Mile (boat races, anyone), IRP, Paragon, and Springfield Mile.

Haubstadt, if you have never been there, you REALLY have no idea what your missing.

Bloomington, great racing , and truly the most beautiful track in Indiana.

Terre Haute, welcome old girl. Just wish the champ cars were there this year.

Kokomo, Racing at its most breathtaking.

The Burg, Whooooa Racin.

Re: best track 2008??

This one is pretty easy...

THAT. For everyone else this last year was aeseome, I just loved being able to help bring it back and will be there this year. Be neat if I get a dual sport bike, to be able to ride it aroudn the track or if I get a cruiser to take a cruise around the track once it has been raced on...I hope this dream comes true.

Re: best track 2008??

Haubstadt. ONly been to one show but I guess the non stop slide jobs do it for me.

Burg, Best prepped most grooves on any indiana racetrack. Best facilities bar none. Very little dust compared to that speed plant up north.

Putnamville. Its a shame I got sick of the BS but the track is as hillbilly as possible and still one of the funnest to watch a race on with some of the best racing.

Twin Cities. Don't ask me why.

Kamp, Mostly mortified but if they'd prep it better......

Bloomington, If seen some of the best racing there and some of the worst run away wins. I consider the track to be just too damn narrow.

Kokomo. The reason its so far down is they basically mug you at the entrance. No Cooler, no water bottle. Usually two grooves and good racing but im not driving 220 miles each way for that kind of treatment. Meanwhile every team in the pits has a cooler............ Go figure. Of all the tracks I have the least desire to go here

Gas City, I hate the stands, I hate the cooler policy, I hate the reserved seating policy. Its just strange to watch a race here. But still good racing Great concession, Mushrooms, and tenderloin sammich.

Eldora, Bring a gas mask and goggles, There still isn't a dirt track that can pump up the excitement level like a big show here. That or its 20,000 plus at a dirt track.

1 Kokomo More great or amazing races and close finishes I seen anywhere this year
2 Gas City Just a great close place to see racing every week
3 Bloomington Would be #2 but the 2 1/2 hours compared to the 1/2 hour drive hurts a bit
4 Eldora Only race I was disappointed with last year was the prelude
5 Lawrenceburg Always good racing can't say I've seen a bad show

Re: best track 2008??

1. PAS - the best track in the west period.
2. Calistoga - last year's return of traditional sprint cars and midgets was amazing. One scary place.
3. Tulare - very nice track at the county fairgrounds also known as the Thunderbowl. great racing.
4. Ventura - small bullring on the pacific.
5. Victorville - fairgrounds track that is slowly getting some recognition.
6. Roseville - (its asphalt) the USAC Western sprints put on a good show in last year's opener.

This year journeys to Petaluma (never been) and maybe Chowchilla which is reopening this season with a very good promoter and an agressive open wheel schedule. Would like to make it to Ocean (Watsonville) where the 360 wingers run but the reason would be to see the spec sprints with some hard charging youngsters.

Re: best track 2008??

This is based on the best races I saw in 2008:

1. DuQuoin - Silver Crown battle between Brian Tyler and Dave Darland as good as it gets.
2. Kokomo - Indiana Sprintweek race, Darland wins, Ballou crashes -WOW!
3. Eldora - 4-Crown Midget feature - Yeley beats Darland in a barnburner.
4. Granite City - Friday night of the Gold Crown, Brad Sweet finds a way to win.
5. McCool Junction NE - Two nights of POWRi midgets, K. Swindell puts on a clinic.
6. I-80, Greenwood NE - Sprint Bandits - Darland shows the wing-lovers how its done without a crutch.
7. Macon, IL - Justin Allgaier rides an inch wide, foot deep cushion to win.
8. Gas City - Cole Whitt looms large.
9. Belleville KS - Midget Nationals - Sweet is sweet.
10. Chili Bowl - Even when its average, its great - Gardner wins.

Favorite -
BLOOMINGTON- The hill "ROCKS" Food is good, I can take my cooler in!!
Least Favorite
GAS CITY-Stands are very uncomfortable and in my opinion the track prep is the poorest of all mid-west dirt tracks.
