Little 500?

Debating a trip to the Little 500 on Saturday. weather looks good at the moment. I've never been. How high up should one be to avoid infield obstructions? Appears there isn't a bad seat there from what I've seen, but sometimes the bottom rows are a bit obstructed. Thx!

You got tickets? It usually sells out by 2-3 in the afternoon. That doesn't mean there won't be people outside selling tickets of some who couldn't make it. Seats are slim except bottom couple rows.

It's a must see at some point race. Head to the Restroom about 20 min before. get your drink and munchies and get ready for about 2.5hrs of non stop racing.

The track you can see from anywhere around it even bottom rows. Nothing sticking up to block view.

I've sat in about every section at Anderson. Love the backstretch, Section O! Wall seems to be lower and the cars coming off turn 2 look like they're coming right at you. AND, all the pit stops are right in front of you. Backstretch rocks!

Re: Little 500?

agree on backstretch but a MUST is ear plugs!!!!!

diversified 5/21/25 9:36 PM

Rained off and on all day at Anderson. On practice at all. New schedule for Thursday:
Practice (extended) 11:30-2:45
Qualifying 3:00-5:00
I believe grandstand admission is free on Thursday

diversified 5/21/25 9:37 PM

Oops meant no practice at all!

There are very few bad seats. That said, there are a few more NASCAR people in attendance every year. By that I mean the number of people who stand inappropriately grows larger every. At least in section B on the front stretch that is the case. Can't speak for other areas but where we're at be prepared to put up with it or for combat.

Tell them to sit down that’s what we do:)

Re: Little 500?

I rarely, if ever, see people standing at the Little 500. I've never had to tell anyone to sit down. Not sure how you can prove more NASCAR fans are going. More RACE FANS are going.

I'm looking forward to it, sitting or standing!

I'll be in turn one.

I'm a mild mannered guy by nature but 1 thing that does make me mad is clueless people standing at a racetrack in the middle of the action. Especially when its' one guy in the section that is doing it. No problem speaking up when that happens.

And I have decided to go. Bought a ticket last night. Heading over Saturday afternoon. Do they allow people to wander the pit area before race time or are the pits closed all day unless you have a pit pass?

I'll stand if I want, but my seats are top row and have been for the last 30 years! Love this race

I will be there too, I was a hardcore non wing guy but this race is so addictive and unique. I will also say this is a super strong field this year!!

You need a pit pass for the pits. However a walk around the whole track is must and a history lesson. Check out the turn one restroom and make sure a drone isn't flying overhead if you use it. :) Turn two BBQ pretty good. Usually also have a quick line for beer and pop in turn two out of a horse trough filled with ice.

chathamracefan 5/23/25 8:39 PM

Thanks for the tips. The 4 hour drive back home will preclude visiting the beer stand. But I’ll keep the other tips in mind. When I was young I went to a church camp that had open air bathrooms and showers. Kinda wigged me out when I was 12 but I’ll be sure to pay em a visit tomorrow. Lol

flagboy55 5/24/25 9:51 AM

You won’t regret going. We went last year and glad we experienced it. That said I may never go back but I’m happy we went once. It hooks many folks, but not me

Saw a quick video of the 1st lap 1st corner pile up. Anybody have any further updates on anything?

Anderson Speedway FB post

"DAKODA ARMSTRONG WINS THE LITTLE 500"

Nice.

PS - Sadly, it appears this site lost the yearly PR from the Little 500 staff too (or however or whoever posted it here)...that's too bad.

Re: Little 500?

Armstong failed post-race tech, Jake Trainor wins Little 500.

Just saw that about the DQ...some GPS / electronic device / "lap timer" I guess...that sucks.

Musta had it left over from his day's as a development driver in the cheater Roger Penske fold...;)

I enjoyed the race. A very unique event. Had we known that battle for 2nd was really the battle for the win it woulda been even better. OGara held up Trainor for a long long time.

Re: Little 500?

I'll be the one to say it, track crew is a total crap show. Officials would rather carry on a conversation with push truck driver then send them to push cars. Take 5 laps of caution just to get to a spun car. cudos to Axsom for getting out of his car and pushing it himself! Its 2025, not that hard to get a couple of side by sides. Post them at the track entrance in turn 3. Caution comes out, they go. Splurge just a little bit and 1 can even be turned into a wrecker to help out. Heck you don't even have to buy them. Enough series have them, that they can be rented! IT'S TIME TO FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!!

The DQ- This is why I hate asphalt racing. Tech the cars before the show. Not like they are not on the grounds all day long! You find it, DQ and put alternate in. Or send to tail, don't care, fix the stupid issue. I do give them credit for making the DQ. Yes, I know Tires must be done after the race. If you want to check post-race weight, I am good. All tech completed before victory celebration. Fans go home knowing the winner.

Pit stops. 1 thing asphalt Late Models do right is the pit stops. The do controlled cautions at 75 laps. Cars get 3 laps to pit. When they return to the track, they line up behind cars that do not pit. You line up in the order that you were running. Couple of things with this. maybe we do only 3- laps 125, 250 and 375. You would have to get the cars pushed back off before you started counting laps again. Yes the old schoolers will hate this, but push trucks have always sucked. Lets just fix the problem.

I do love the race, been to over 30 of them in a row. Its time to invest more into the actual race running than the pageantry crap.

The NASCAR virus seems to be quite contagious and the pandemic is growing year to year.

767, really, do you think there was an electronic device in the car pre-post race? Have you ever been on a track surface with cars going by at 40 mph in a line of 30, looks easy, because only a few have ever done it. There is always a lot more to a situation than most have privy to. NASCAR,INDY CAR,500 SPRINT TOUR ect... have proven to be beyond approach when it comes to their knowledge and professionalism, the public and fellow competitors only know that there was a DQ and why, all the other info is between the sanctioning body and the competitor.

Sir yes I HAVE. Many times for that matter. That track crew was an embarrassment! I was there the night the clean up guy was killed. Happened right in front of me. A couple of side by sides lit up fixes most of the on track stuff. The first one goes to the stopped car or accident. The 2nd stops before the scene to direct cars high or low. Would be very easy to stage these on the top side of the track in turn 3. And before you preach safety to me, watch how the big series do it. Once the situation is assessed, they can determine if the rest of the clean up team needs to come out.

On the DQ, I have no idea what happened other than the press release. If something was illegal, and they made the call, I give them credit. I stand behind what I said about teching before the race. It's not like they are pulling motors to be sent out.
