I did not see op talking about wrecks or flips, I took trouble to be something like engine detonation. If you root for a lesser financed team then you might like to see one of the big dollar cars drop out.

Re: Is it an indiana or USAC thing
Crashes are part of the sport, IMHO they are thrilling and also scary and I'd say it'd be taking away from the thrill of the sport if they didn't happen. HOWEVER, I've never left a event where there wasn't any flips thinking I was missing something. Or if they went green to checker. Wrecks happen for many different reasons. I can't fault a driver who was giving their all, doing something the others weren't to gain possition and wrecks. ANYONE CAN PLAY IT SAFE and sometimes thats the smart move also.[/quote]
I could go to the races for years and never see a crash and enjoy racing just as much or more. I see crashes as dangerous, usually mistakes by somebody and a big pain in the wallet for someone else. Some of the best races I have ever watched have gone green to checkered without so much as a yellow flag. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Re: Is it an indiana or USAC thing
Im talking about cheering while the drivers still flipping down the track, You call that enthusiasm?
Guess when you've seen some not live though em or ever walk again any YAHOOing of a crash, I just don't get. If that was you getting your ribs busted, skull rung and lung punctured, how would you feel if someone was by the fence cheering about it? Football, hockey? A hard hit is a hard hit but rarely deadly or career ending |
I'm not cheering flips but I'll cheer a blown rr or motor. You guys are way too sensitive. Sorry not everyone wants to see every driver win every race. Eat a steal drink an old fashioned and call me when you find your testosterone.

Re: Is it an indiana or USAC thing
We were taught never to wish or cheer bad fortune on anyone too! It is an a$$hole thing for sure!
Some people even start cheering before the car lands while flipping! :11: |

Most Open wheel fans are a bit odd. They watch the race more like a ballet dance than football game. They watch for the finesse of the really good drivers and marvel about their ability to do what they do. This feeling also holds true for the Mechanics doing the wrenches out there. When the race car hit the track and both car and driver are spot on target, to me it's a thing of beauty, to hell with the flips and wheel bumping. Open wheel racing is in my opinion is the pure form of Auto racing. Drivers must be able to race very very close and absolutely no mistakes are allowed. In Other forms of racing contact with the other cars is part of the norm and is accepted as natural. Just maybe that is why so many drivers with Open Wheel experience excel when moving laterally to racing Nascar. A Lateral Promotion means they that are "not" moving up as far as their driving ability is concerned but moving up to the much better pay checks that Nascar offers. My big wake up to "Red Neck Racing" was when a friend got me a seat to the first BrickYard 400. Those damn Nascar people did not sit down for the whole race, forcing me to stand also if I wanted to see a race car and not somebodys butt.. In comparison I have gone to the Indy 500 and the fans very seldom if ever got to their feet, except maybe for the Invocation, the playing of the National Anthem and the green and checkered flag lap. Its all good in indiana. Only the best racing fans in the world come to indiana to watch dirt track racing at its best. Hope that all race fans have a great weekend of racing in the great state of indiana.

Re: Is it an indiana or USAC thing
I still cheer when something bad happens to slammin Sammy. I have disliked that SOB since the 80's. He's proven to me over and over that he's a complete and total A-hole.
Other than that, I don't cheer at any bad fortune for any other driver! EVER! |
Re: Is it an indiana or USAC thing
team
Have you ever met the guy. People that I know that have been around him say he is a really a nice guy. Very very focused but a real nice guy. The same holds true for his son. He is very good at what he does, be it setting up a race car for changing track conditions or driving the car to it's maximum potential. He is the total package in dirt open wheel racing. He might keep to himself, I don't think I have ever heard him talk out of place, for that matter he doesn't talk very much at all period. But that in my opinion does not make him an A-hole. Like it has been said Opinions are like A-holes everybody has one, thanks to God. Honest Dad himself:6::6: |
Re: Is it an indiana or USAC thing
I don't like the cheering of a crash Most of the people who I have seen cheering crashes have been drinking heavily and I hope no one takes that wrong cuz I enjoy my beer too. I had a guy take a swing at me one year at Eldora after Steve flipped I told him Dude could you least wait and see if he;s ok before you cheer The guy said something about my mother and took a swing I leaned back and he missed and windup bout 4 steps down I am just not sure about people anymore weather drinking or not cheering crashes is wrong in my books I guess theres more horses ass than I thought out there
