Re: Morgan County Speedway
:applaud:As for the rumor it is indeed true. Billy West who is the promoter their called me Saturday evening and informed me they would be running non-wing sprints weekly using MSCS rules and format. He said they would be paying $1200 to win and $200 to start with the MSCS show still being the traditional purse. Really looking forward to help bring back traditional sprints to central Illinois. With Danville dropping out this could be our last chance to establish a weekly program like this. I hope every one at least gives him a chance and comes and runs. I do not have any affiliation with the track other than being really hopeful to have somewhere to race every Friday night.

Re: Morgan County Speedway
I used to go pretty often to watch the winged sprints run there. It's a pretty good track, and the crowd is always good. I think car counts were the biggest reason the weekly sprints went away. I'm really hoping the non-wing cars succeed. The racing should be good, and hopefully guys with 360's will show up because they can compete on the little bullring.

Re: Morgan County Speedway
I went there for the MSCS show last year and had a good time. I will go back if it fits my schedule. It is a long drive from Evansville is the only downside.

Re: Morgan County Speedway
We are excited to hear about this.....only an hour from the house!:applaud:
Neat little old-time bullring, and perhaps this could bring some new teams into the traditional sprint car world. |

Re: Morgan County Speedway
If fans of non-wing racing want to see two nights of topless action each weekend in west-central Illinois, they will be able to take a short trip west on I-72 from Jacksonville and see wingless 600cc micro sprints on Saturday nights this season on the high banks at Pittsfield Speedway, Inc. (formerlly Pike County Speedway.)

Re: Morgan County Speedway
This is just great news! Since the track is about 45 minutes from my home I will be there often.
If you haven't been to Pittsfield you may want to give it a try. My first visit a few years ago I was really impressed by the facility, the people and the racing. Saw a young man there who I thought just might have a future in racing. Last I heard, Cameron Dodson was doing just fine. The next star may be racing there this year. Hope everyone is having a great winter. Spring is just around the corner. Frank Daigh |
Re: Morgan County Speedway
This great news! Look for two nights of Sprint Invaders 360 sprints as well is what I'm hearing...
The sprints belong in central Illinois... |
Re: Morgan County Speedway
The new promoter of Danville was at the Swap meet Sat and was telling everyone he is running one Fri night per month. Also there is a good chance the Bell Shootout will be revived into a traveling mini series. Possible venues could be Macon, Lincoln, Charleston, Farmer City, Flora and Mt Vernon. Any ideas or imput is welcome to me, Joe Chambers, or Bill Nelson. Alot to decide and discuss still, but non wing sprint car racing is not dead in Central IL. There are alot of cars and the racing is good....we will not be denied. ~Steve~
