JIM McCLEAN, 71

Jim McClean of Joliet, Ill. a three-time USAC National Midget race winner, passed away Saturday at the age of 71. The 1966 UARA Midget Rookie of the Year and 1969 Badger Midget Champion, Jim was a frequent winner at the Joliet (Ill.) Stadium. In 1971 he scored his first USAC win at Santa Fe Park in Hinsdale, Ill. and ended up 9th in the final USAC National Midget points. He followed with a 1972 win at Santa Fe and then won a 1979 race at Illiana Speedway in Schererville, Ind. That year he also competed in the USAC Mini Indy series at the Milwaukee Mile. In 1992 he attempted to qualify for a few USAC Silver Crown races. Services are scheduled from 3-8 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Baskerville Funeral Home, located at 700 Kahler Rd. in Wilmington, Ill. USAC extends its condolences to his family and friends.
