I'm planning on taking the little guy to the Indy GP this coming Saturday and giving his mom a day to herself with out him (or myself) bugging her all day. Now my question is, what would people who have been there before suggest to be a good place to sit and watch the race from? I'm going for GA tickets only. Also where would be a good place to park? Sadly enough I haven't been to IMS since I was in 4th grade and my social studies class took a field trip there on the week leading up to the 500. This was 16 years ago mind you.

I didn't go last year but went in '14; a GA ticket gets you access to the whole infield. Almost all of the viewing mounds give a good look at several corners, and each has its' own advantages. You can get a general idea of the corners you can see from the track map on IMS' website, so my advice if you want a "base of operations" is to pick the one that looks best to you to set up your stuff (people were pretty good about watching blankets, etc. if you ask), but I highly recommend wandering around and checking out the vantage points all over the property. As an added bonus they set up Jumbotrons across from all the mounds so you can catch all the action without too much trouble.
The permanent Jumbotrons face the outer stands for the most part but the funniest thing I saw in '14 was a bunch of people lying on the backside of the mound inside roadcourse Turn 1 watching the big screen while the race was going on over the hill behind them....

Kinda defeats the purpose of even going to the track, doesn't it? Thanks Jim. How about parking?

That's what I was thinking, but some people do that in the pits at the Chili Bowl too;
I can't help ya with parking, I live close enough that I can walk in...
Seriously your best bet is to see how close to the track you can get in the surrounding neighborhoods; I'm pretty sure people sell lawn space like they do for the 500, and you can probably find a spot for $10.00, where the track is charging 20 (I'm not close enough for parking, just close enough to walk myself).

Awesome, I'm assuming that the allow coolers? Otherwise I'm going to be spending a fortune on snacks and drinks for the 4 year old(we're pretty sure he's chunking up for another growth spurt).
