USAC Amsoil National Sprint Cars Head To Montpelier For First Ever Visit on Saturday, April 23rd

The United States Auto Club (USAC) is set to make the first of two noteworthy stops during the 2016 season to the historic Montpelier Motor Speedway this Saturday, April 23rd with the always popular and ultra competitive USAC Amsoil National Sprint Cars series. The stop will serve as the first USAC national sprint car appearance at the 113 year old racing facility in this full points paying event.

In USAC Sprint Car competion, Rocklin, California’s, Robert Ballou (a 2014 Montpelier Motor Speedway Feature Winner) picked up the 2015 Amsoil National Sprint Car Championship edging Dave Darland, Chase Stockon, Brady Bacon, and Jon Stanbrough. Racing through the 2016 season for the United States Auto Club has posted 5 different winners including Bryan Clauson, Robert Ballou, Thomas Meseraull, Dave Darland, and Chase Stockon.

Kokomo, Indiana’s Shane Cottle and legendary car owner, Paul Hazen, swept Montpelier Motor Speedway non-wing competition in 2015. USAC regular top 20 drivers Ballou, Dave Darland, Jon Stanbrough, Kevin Thomas Jr., Justin Grant, Jerry Coons Jr., Landon Simon, and Logan Jarrent all made 2015 Montpelier starts.

The Montpelier Motor Speedway, which began racing in 1903 and hosted its first automobile race in 1915, is one of America’s oldest remaining racing facilities. Sprint car racing first came to Montpelier in the late 1940’s in the form of “Big Cars”. While the east central Indiana ¼ mile clay oval has a historic past, the facility has seen many major modern upgrades the past four seasons including new restrooms and bleachers along with the addition of many safety features such as a new catch fence system along with a new front stretch wall, lighting system, and runoff area. The Montpelier Motor Speedway commonly competes weekly on Saturday Nights with its popular Modified and Stock Car divisions, and is also the host to the popular Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series.

The who’s-who of USAC is a list of some of the greatest drivers in the history of the sport. Former national sprint car champions include Parnelli Jones, A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford, Gary Bettenhausen, Levi Jones, Rich Vogler, Kenny Shrader, Dave Darland, Jack Hewitt, and current NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, J.J. Yeley, Jeff Gordon, Cole Whitt, Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, Josh Wise, and Kyle Larson all competed as USAC regulars. 2015 Indianapolis 500 starter Bryan Clauson is also a two-time USAC sprint car champion.

Size and Configuration – 1/4 Mile Clay Oval With Sweeping Corners; 10+ degrees of banking in corners and backstretch.

Year Built – 1903 as 1/2 Mile Horse Track

Parking – Free parking located near main grandstand entrance

Family Section Seating – A designated area for family seating is located in the grandstands directly behind the flag stand. The consumption of alcoholic beverage in the family section is prohibited.

Coolers – Insurance regulations prohibit the carry in of any cooler

Camping – Free overnight primitive camping is allowed. Self Contained Campfires Permitted. Please no wood with nails. Self Clean-Up Required

Alcohol – The Alcohol and Beverage Commission prohibits the carry in of any alcohol. Beer is sold at the track. ID is required.

Souvenir Stand – Fully stocked souvenir stand (includes MMS T-Shirts, Hoodies, Pictures, and MMS Programs)

Kids Stand – Fully stocked family/kid souvenir stand (includes kid’s toys and novelties, racing flags, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc… Items starting at .50/$1.00)

Restrooms – New clean Men and Women’s restroom located behind the main grandstands. Pit side restroom is men only.

Concession Stand – Wide range of food and sides and cold/hot drinks located behind the main grandstands. Dual lines to purchase food available from spectator area. Picnic tables spread throughout the facility.

Pets – Pets are not allowed in the grandstand area.

Heads up to anyone headed that way this weekend. Road is out at SR 18 and SR 3 just west of Montpelier if you're coming from direction

There are county roads a mile to the north and south of the 18/3 intersection. You can take either/or down another mile and then turn back either north or south back towards 18 and head on into Montpelier. Also an FYI, the county road to the north that runs parallel with 18 is gravel.

Towing in from Indy last year when they were doing repairs on 18, I found it easiest to take the Hwy 26/Hartford City exit off of I-69, then follow 26 to Rd 500 E (Blackford County Sherrif's station is on the corner) which takes you straight into Montpelier.

Hwy 18 was fine for the BOSS Show last September. Not sure about now though.

There is a small detour at the intersection of Indiana Highway 18 and 3 west of the Montpelier Motor Speedway. There is a short 2 mile detour around the bridge here http://www.montpeliermotorspeedway.c...from-the-west/

Jim's route above will also work but will take you through downtown Hartford City and several stop lights. The road you turn on at the jail will run right past the east of the speedway property once you get into the Montpelier city limits.

Our racing family is heading that way. Should get there around 4 ( mailman had to walk his 13 miles today.) Lol. Hopefully that they will have seats available. Have fun and enjoy the great racing events this weekend.
