zbuck,
I have attended the past 5 chili bowls, only during the first one did I sit in the stands. Way to crowded for me. I get a pit pass every year and watch on the jumbo tron. Bring your lawn chair, and a small cooler and have the time of your life. It is nowhere near as crowded, though the traffic in front of you if you park your seat by the Kunz rig can be a hassle at times. Usually those spots are filled up pretty quick, also. I have watched from that location, the jumbo tron in the back of the building, from where you enter the grandstands near the pit stands, I think section FF, stood the whole time from opening ceremonies till the end but was able to see the whole track. Also was able to find my way onto the ramp, on both sides of the fence early saturday. That is a pretty cool spot watching them come at you down the back stretch, right where the cars make the right hand turn on the track. As long as you are okay with not being able to see the track, I dont see the issue. In previous years I have met several people that do just that and bypass the whole grand stand seating deal all together. Besides, you are able to beat the rush to the pits at the end of the night! Go, have fun, and enjoy the Chili Bowl!

I can't imagine not having seats, but I know a lot of folks do it that way. Just preference I guess. The wife and I took our teenage kids a few years back and bought a couple of Saturday night tickets from scalpers over by the hotel in the parking lot and paid $100 each. Personally, I didn't think that was a bad price being Saturday night. I think we went over around 9 a.m. on Saturday morning and bought them.
