The bell rang to start the Mel Kenyon Midget Series season on April 11 at Anderson Speedway. Saturday night the 16 round battle will come to an end at the same arena when a new champion is crowned. The only question is who will be that champion?
Kyle O’Gara jumped to the early lead with a win at Anderson. O’Gara held the point lead until May fifth when Dameron Taylor assumed the point. Taylor kept his grip on the top spot until August 22 when O’Gara climbed back on top.
O’Gara holds onto a 180 point margin over Taylor entering Saturday’s event on the high banks of Anderson Speedway. A maximum of 246 points are available when a driver sweeps an entire event - something no driver has accomplished this season. With the right combination of events the door remains open for Taylor to snatch the championship away from O’Gara on the final night of the season.
Fans will remember O’Gara and Taylor for their classic short track duel at Anderson August 8 when O’Gara nipped Taylor at the finish line by a scant 0.004 second margin. With the championship on the line as well as several more spots up for grabs, the night is sure to excite.
The Anderson Speedway spectator gates open at 4, with qualifying for all divisions slated to go at 5:30 with racing at 7:00. The Mel Kenyon Midget Series will be joined by the USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series Built by the UAW, CSR Mini Cups, Indy Fast Karts and the WOFS Figure 8 cars.
Tickets for Paint the Night Pink are adults $15, kids 6 to 12 $4, and kids five and under are free. To support Breast Cancer Awareness adults wearing pink will receive a $1 discount.
