TWO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY CHAMPIONS TO BE CROWNED THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!

(Perris, CA, September 16, 2015) When Perris Auto Speedway hosts the annual Glenn Howard Memorial this Saturday night, September 19th, champions for the 2105 season will be crowned in the Senior Sprint and Young Gun Sprint Car classes. In addition to those two classes, the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the California Lightning Sprint Cars will also be in action. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.

Simi Valley’s Chris Wakim will be trying to sew up his first ever PAS title in the Senior Sprint Cars for drivers age 45 and over. The 52-year-old brings a 22-point lead over 2-time champion Bruce Douglass, 64, of Ventura. Douglass would need to finish eight spots in front of Wakim to win the title for the third time.

The only other driver with a mathematical chance at winning the Senior Sprint crown is Richard McCormick. Known as the “Iron Man,” the 57-year-old Canyon Country based driver trails Douglass by 19-markers and is 41 behind leader Wakim. Riverside local Dwayne Marcum and 2013 PAS Senior Sprint champion Rick Hendrix of Palmdale are ranked fourth and fifth in the standings heading into the final night of the season.

In the Young Gun Series for drivers age 14-25, Holtville’s George Morris already has one hand on the trophy. The airplane mechanic who attended Miramar College leads 14-year-old Courtney Crone of Corona by 16-points. Due to the size of the fields in the Young Guns this year, Morris, who drives a car out of the Cory Kruseman stable, should just be able to start the main on Saturday to sew up the crown. Maylssa Perkins of Oak Hills, who won her first ever main event on August 15th, is third in the Young Gun standings.

In addition to the Senior Sprints and the Young Guns, all of the stars of the Amsoil USAC/CRA Series will be in action in their final tune up at The PAS for the 20th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals Presented by All Coast Construction on November 12th, 13th and 14th. This season has seen the best points race in years in the series with the lead trading hands several times. Heading into Saturday’s race, 5-time series champion Mike Spencer of Temecula is back in the top spot. The Cal Poly Pomona engineering graduate, who will become a dad for the second time in December, leads 3-time series champion Damion Gardner of Concord by 42-points. Visalia’s Richard Vander Weerd is third with Austin Williams of Yorba Linda and Anaheim’s Jake Swanson rounding out the top five.

Rounding out Saturday’s exciting card will be the final 2015 appearance of the California Lightning Sprint Car Series at The PAS. Lomita’s Bobby Michnowicz, who has won seven of the first 11 races in the series, has two wins in three outings at The PAS this year. 2010 CLS champion Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley scored the other victory.
