Walker Prepared for Full Weekend of POWRi Racing
By Jessica Jenkins
Gage Walker is gearing up for the start of his POWRi season as he heads out for the double header in IL. He will be racing at Jacksonville Speedway Friday night followed by Macon Speedway on Saturday. The young Indianapolis-based driver kicked off his season in a USAC National Midget at Kokomo Speedway April 11th, transferring from the B Main and gaining 9 positions in the A to finish 12th. A picture perfect day for racing at Montpelier Motor Speedway April 18th turned out even better as he had jumped into the lead by lap 3 and led the next eleven laps before hitting a rut on a restart knocked him out of the lead. It did not deter him though and he claimed a solid third place finish. In his words: "I'm really happy with how the season has started for us and of how much I've improved already from last year’s season. Last year we got a late start into the season and it seemed like we were playing catch up the whole time. Sitting over the winter and really thinking about things I need to improve on has really paid off. I've done exactly what I want to do so far these past two races: move forward in the A-main and get good solid finishes."
This weekend he plans to build on that momentum and make a strong debut in the POWRi Midgets. Speaking about the upcoming races, Walker confided, "I'm really looking forward to running these first two POWRi races for me this weekend. Jacksonville and Macon are a couple of my favorite tracks and I couldn't be more excited. Hopefully I can just keep improving and learn as much as possible. This year is my full rookie season for Powri and USAC. If I could come home with a couple of top 5 finishes I'd be more than happy."
