Final weekend of 2014 Season October 10th and 11th at Lincoln Speedway and Jacksonville Speedway

by Patrick Davis

After Mother Nature opened up the skies and dropped the temps in the St. Louis area, it also struck down a pair of scheduled events on Friday, October 3rd and Saturday, October 4th at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. With these rainouts, it leaves Shaheen’s Super Weekend this coming weekend as the FINAL 2 events of the 2014 MOWA Sprint Car Series presented by Casey’s General Store season.

Friday night, October 10th the MOWA Sprint Car Series presented by Casey’s General Store heads to the Lincoln Speedway, located on the Logan County Fairgrounds. The series makes up a big tripleheader, joined by the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget Series and Midwest Big Ten Series UMP Super Late Models. UMP Street Stocks, thanks to McQuinn Motorsports and Osman Racing will be racing as well, and there will be a $100 bonus to win the feature event Admission will be $25 for adults. Children 11 to 18 years old are $7 while children 10 and under are free.

Saturday, October 11th, the series heads to Jacksonville Speedway for the Ron Milton Race of Champions. This event is a tribute to one of Jacksonville’s best racers and longtime co-promoter of Jacksonville Speedway who passed away earlier this year. This will also be Nostalgia night with many vintage race cars and memorabilia on display throughout the day and evening as well as a 100 lap hornet enduro at Noon. Evening program will consist of MOWA Sprint Car Series presented by Casey’s General Store 410 Winged Sprints, Lucas Oil POWRi National Midgets, Speedway Motors POWRi 600cc Outlaw Micros, UMP Modifieds, and UMP Street Stocks (racing for $400 bonus if Lincoln winner can win at Jacksonville, worth $1,000 total) Adult admission is $25, ages 11-18 $7, and kids 10 and under Free.

For both evenings, Gates open at 5 PM, Hot Laps are scheduled to start at 6:15 with racing at 7 PM. All times are Central

Sprints and midgets show has turned into four classes.... Hope they keep it moving on a cold night!

I understand, but we don't expect a B-Main in either the Late Models or Stock Cars on Friday. It has rained so much the second half of the season that to be fair to some of our local raceers, we really need to give them a chance to race as well. At Jacksonville on Saturday we have structured the show to where a person most interested in sprints and midgets can arrive at our normal start time of 7:00 and have missed the stock car and micro heats which started at 6:00. This is the hometown race track for many of them... and they deserve an opportunity to race. So we are giving them that opportunity while being mindful of the wishes of our traveling fans.

I need to check with our race director but we will try to get through the Midgets and Sprints earlier in the program. I don't expect more than 2 heats of late models and stock cars and no B-mains in those.

Similarly at Jacksonville on Saturday... while we are announcing a 6:00 start time for racing, our target for starting Midget and Sprint heats is our normal 7:00 starting time. We hope to have the micro and stock car heats completed between 6 and 7. The fan who primarily wants to watch midgets and sprints could arrive at about 6:00, check out the nostalgia and memorabilia displays, grab a seat at 7 and start watching primarily a midget/sprint show from that point forward. At least that's how we've drawn it up on paper

[Sorry - forgot I mentioned much of this a few posts ago. ]
