DAMION GARDNER’S RUN AT 200-MPH IN A SPRINT CAR DELAYED BY RAIN!
(Concord, CA, August 8, 2014) The “World’s Fastest Sprint Car Driver,” Damion Gardner, has had his run at a 200-MPH pass in a sprint car at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats delayed until at least Monday due to a torrential Wednesday night thunderstorm that left the course under water.
The Concord, California based racing star had hopes of making his first passes in the “Green Demon” car on Saturday and by Sunday was hoping he would have eclipsed the 200-MPH barrier. However, the deluge, which was the first just before Speedweek since the 1990’s, changed everyone’s plans. There was initial concern that the entire event would have to be canceled. Now with the meet just starting late, the main concern for Gardner and the other competitors is what will be the condition of the salt?
As of noon today, SCTA workers were erecting markers on the courses. They were seeing water levels reduce quite quickly. Helping the process were light breezes out of the east and brilliant sunshine. The pits were still covered with a couple of inches of water at that time.
Due to the powerful storm, instead of Saturday being the first day of speed passes, it is now planned to be the first day officials let the 450 teams onto the salt to establish their pit areas. On Sunday, it will be tech and spectators will be allowed onto the salt for the first time.
Needless to say Gardner and the crew are frothing at the mouth for Monday to get here so they can attack the course. The popular driver and his crew are currently in the casino parking lot going over every inch of the car with the extra time afforded.
Everything is being shot for an exciting documentary titled, “The World’s Fastest Sprint Car.” The made for TV production is being written, directed and produced by Surf N’ Sprint and will be shot by the award winning racing specialists from LoudPedal Productions.
