VINTAGE RACE CARS
Posted on 6/24/2014 at 0824 PM by Kevin Ruic

It’s about a month before the one and only 2014 BioBased US Open Wheel Extravaganza at historic Sandusky Speedway. Not only is this going to be an awesome one off open wheel event but a day of Motorsports entertainment for the entire family. July the 16th will be the first time an event this large and this diversified has been presented and on a Wednesday to boot.

One of the many fan friendly activities taking place will be the gathering of vintage race cars. Here is a partial list of the hot rods of yesteryear that will there for you to drool over.

#3 1975 Cicanese Chassis, 1975 Eldora champion, won 10 features in 1975. Jim only ran this car one season. Car is 95% original and has its unrestored wooden top wing. Owned, restored and driven by Jim Linder.

#33 1970 Holynski Roadster big block 427 Chevy power. Campaigned By Paul Strasser of
Sandusky, Ohio from 1970 - 1979. The Holynski Roadster with Paul Strasser behind the
wheel qualified 6 times for the Oswego Classic. Owned by Randy & Jane Mapus of
Castalia, Ohio. Restored and driven by Randy Mapus.

#99 Harold Thomas Sprinter out of Michigan, that Johnny Logan had over 25 feature wins and two Sandusky Speedway championships. 1969 Grant King chassis, Chevy powered. Owned by Lee & Rose Booze. Restored and driven by Lee Booze Sandusky, Ohio.

#62 1974 McClairen chassis out of Texas. Big block Chevy power. Les Olexan won a 100 lap
feature in this car at Sandusky Speedway. Restored, owned and driven by Tim Sisson
Marblehead, Ohio.

#44 1969 Ward chassis, Chevy power, owned by Darrel Harrison.

#711 1942 Chevy Coupe 230 CI engine Owned and driven by Denny Loroff, Castalia, Ohio.

#43 1977 USAC Champ dirt car (Grant King) Armstrong mould car driven by Gary Bettenhausen & Tom Bigelow. Owned and driven by Ken Swiergosz, Pemberville, Ohio.

#96 Late 1980"s sprint car owned, driven by Tim Stover, Fremont, Ohio.

#92 1988 Vega NASCAR Modified touring series, Chevy powered Flemke Chassis, former drivers Dennis Arbrew, and Ted Brown. Owned and driven by Roy Nacewicz, Carleton, Michigan.

#4 1977 Ward sprint car built by Donnie Harrell. Chevy powered raced with USAC with drivers Billy Engelhart and Larry Rice. Larry Rice drove this sprinter to a 3rd place in points in 1979. Owned and driven by John Fork, Woodville, Ohio.

We are very proud of the fact that quite a few of these cars have a history at Sandusky Speedway and of course Jim Linder’s #3 will be the crown jewel of the show. Not only will these famous racecars from the past be on display before the evening’s races but they will be taking laps during both the American and the Canadian National Anthems. With the proper amount of encouragement they might even run an actual race.

The gates open at 3pm for both the pits and the grandstand area. Racing begins at 7pm. A pit pass is $35, the grandstands are $20 and kids 12 and under are always free. For more information call 440-376-3919.
