MOTHER NATURE HALTS STARS NATIONAL MIDGET EVENT

June 7, 2014

By: Rich Murray

Since the creation of auto racing, Mother Nature has been victorious in virtually every racing series all around the world. Saturday Night’s D'Arcy GMC STARS National Midget event at Grundy County Speedway can now be added to that illustrious list. As the cars and drivers in the second midget heat race circled the track in anticipation of the green flag, the skies opened up, moisture soaked the track and, thus, put an early end to the night.

Before the rains came, the midgets completed their group qualifying sessions with previous week’s feature winner, Austin Prock, setting the pace with a quick lap of 14.322. Underneath threatening skies, the first heat was completed with Tyler Trainor holding off Prock’s challenges to take home a comfortable victory. Behind Trainor and Prock at the finish line were Billy Hulbert, Ryan Probst, Tyler Baran, and Terry Ahern.

In other action, the Illini Racing Series midget heats were won by last week’s feature winner Mike Anderson and Dan Smith. The Classic Modified heat race was won by opening night feature winner Tom Schnabel while the heat race victor for the INEX Legends was Brian Tedeschi.

Due to this week’s rainout, next week’s Carter/Anderson Classic presents a unique opportunity to see the STARS National Midget racers compete in twin features. Two separate, complete features will be run with each race consisting of 36 laps in honor of the car number that the Anderson family has made famous on their midget for many decades. Going into next week’s event, Prock sits atop the points standings for the STARS National Midgets ahead of Kyle O’Gara by 11 points, followed by Brad Greenup, Travis Young, and Nick Baran.
