I know this kind of thread has been said time and time again on this board. But Friday night at Gas City Josh and Jerry Spencer YET AGAIN showed they are the epitome of class and true ambassadors of the sport.

Josh pretty much had a lousy night. The heat race had him spin off track (looked like after the caution was thrown for a 2 car incident... maybe Josh got helped off the track? Kinda hard to see from my vantage point in the infield... I'm sure someone will clarify it here) , missing the transfer. In his B main had the lead for a while.... but ended up out of the transfer to the feature.

Now this run of luck would have had MANY teams load the car up and get the heck outta Dodge. The Spencers are not one of those teams.

Josh changed into his civies..... the crew cleaned the car completely off making it look pretty....... and LEFT THE CAR OUT IN FRONT OF THE HAULER. Kyle and I stopped and chatted with Josh and Jerry before the feature. Kyle asked a question he and I both knew the answer to, but it's still was good it was asked.....

Kyle: "OK. You guys had a bad night. You have every right to load up the car and leave. Why are you all still here?"

Josh: "Because of all those people up there (pointing to the stands) who pay their money to watch us race. Without them no one races. We stay here until all those fans have had a chance to come by the pits...... until all those kids who want to get to sit in the car..... until we greet everyone who comes by and thank them for coming out to watch the races. We are usually the last ones out of here every night and we would not have it any other way"

If this sport loses the Spencers...... we will have suffered a huge loss and it will be a truly sad time. We have heard Jerry mention on here and have heard it said pitside they are a big crash away from folding up shop. I for one, as a fan, pray they have the support (both monetary and parts-wise) needed to continue to race. The pits will be a lonely place without the entire Spencer team.

Josh, Jerry and the whole team..... thank you for all that you do for this sport. It's always a pleasure seeing you at the racetrack and we hope you can continue to do so well into the next decade!

Ok please quit giving them a reach around they are not the only team that does that. They may miss the feature more than others and stick around but many teams stay after a bad night!

I agree with Mr. Gilbert. The Spencer’s are good people. I understand that other drivers due stay around to let kids sit in their cars (Very Few) but the Spencer’s always seem more open to the race fans. I know my two boys love watching Josh race. My boys are 7 and 5 and in the driveway while riding their bikes they act like they are Josh. I have known Josh before he even started racing quarter midgets and he was a great kid then. Josh’s attitude has never changed even when he started to race the full size sprinters. (Unlike some other drivers.) I use to race mini sprints with some of the guys who are racing full size sprinters know and they think the sun raises and sits in their aces.
So Spencer’s keep your heads up and keep up the good work.

Swaybar, you are entitled to your opinion, but I disagree.

Whenever I hit the pits after a show, you are lucky if you don't get run over. And, of the teams that are left, many don't want to waste the time of day on you (even when you are looking to buy a T-shirt and give them money).

This is never the case with the Spencers. The respect they've EARNED isn't a reach.

I will also give a hats off to Dave Darland. He's also a class act when it comes to the fans.

Yes you are right they are great with kids but they have to be! They are good people they just kiss a little to much ass. If they were good maybe I would see it different but if your that bad whatever keeps you on the track! More power to them that's the part of racing they are good at!
