SUPERMODIFIEDS AT ANDERSON SPEEDWAY CANCELED

The Must See Racing Supermodifieds that were originally scheduled to race at Anderson Speedway on September 14 have been removed from the event.

MSR founder Jim Hanks stated “Our commitment is to provide race fans with first class Supermodified racing entertainment at our partner tracks and on the MSR national television programming. However, the simple fact is the supermodified world is currently fractured, uncertain and heavily burdened by their past prohibiting us to currently meet our MSR standards and expectations.”

“Supermodified racing is relatively unknown and new to the vast majority of todays race fans and the excitement of Supers has great promise and potential moving into the future. MSR and Anderson Speedway will continue to put every effort into turning that potential into reality moving forward to the 2014 race season” concluded Hanks.

Anderson Speedway’s Rick Dawson “ It is the commitment of both Anderson Speedway and Must See Racing to deliver quality racing programs for our fans and competitors. I certainly respect Jim Hanks and the Must See Racing organization for this decision. Our long term commitment to each other is solid and the fans can look forward to some of the best racing programs in the future including the upcoming Must See Racing Winged Sprints in a 50 lap shoot out on August 17. We will announce a revised racing program for September 14 this week.”

Anderson Speedway and MSR have a rich history showcasing the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprints and the iconic Pay Less Little 500 on Must See television with hosts Rick Benjamin, Tom Bigelow and Dave Argabright that will continue into the future providing great racing entertainment for race fans around the country.

Disappointed to say the least. The supermodified world right now needs some real direction in my opinion. ISMA is mostly a east coast racing league with the exception of the Hy-Miler in Sandusky. They basically are out of the midwest and haven't to my knowledge cancelled any shows.

The MSA was getting a foothold in the Michigan & Ohio area and I was certainly looking forward to seeing them at Baer Field this year. Unfortunately, that show was cancelled.

The Must See Racing series was scheduled for a Lucas Oil Raceway show but it ended up a rain out and was never rescheduled. Must See had a July 5th date on the schedule that was orignally a TBA but was never filled. Now Anderson is cancelled.

Here is a legitimate question for Jim Hanks. What do you see that makes you think anything will change in 2014?

This sounds like taps for the Must See Racing Supermodifieds.

Mike; That's a good question and I hope he answers it. I really like the Supers and I'm still hopeful that they get this series established. I've said this before: IMO the Supermodifieds are the most awesome race cars on the planet.

PJ,

I totally agree. I really enjoy watching them but even more so I enjoy walking the pits afterwards and looking at each individual car. No spec engines or chassis, only hand built machines that offer a variety of looks and designs.

Very exotic equipment and the crews and drivers are extremely friendly. With the speeds they reach it amazes me just how close the racing is and they put on quite a show.

We recently attended the Hy-Miler in Sandusky that is their biggest race of the year. They run a 40 lapper on Friday night called the Fast Forty. Then on Saturday night, it is the grand daddy of all with a 100 lap feature. Oh and by the way, that is 100 GREEN flag laps.

I really hope that both MSA and MSR can co-exist here in the midwest. I would love nothing more than to see each of these series thrive and give us more options to watch the supers. I personally was hoping that with more opportunities to see them run, each series would grow and prosper. Obviously I am not seeing the big picture here.

Also, Wes I hope you are wrong but it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

Mike; A number of years back, 7 or 8 maybe, I went to Concord, NC for the North-South Shootout for modifieds. They also had a non-sanctioned race for the supers that weekend. I expected probably 12-15 cars and couldn't believe that there were over 30 of them! Besides the ISMA and MSA folks, there were at least 10 West coast guys. I spent a good bit of time with Dale Lamborn and his crew from Nevada. Very friendly bunch and I really enjoyed it. It was very interesting seeing the differences between the East and West coast cars. Anyways, the racing was great and IMO they stole the show. Unfortunately the supers didn't get a whole lot of track time (as I recall, their feature was shortened) since they were supposed to be the "support" class and there was some controversy over the officiating. Bottom line, the next year there was only about a dozen cars, none from the West, and the following year the Supers were replaced with Late Models.

I remember a number of years ago when the first East vs West race was held at Indianapolis Raceway Park. I don't remember exactly how many cars were present but they had quite a few. This was before the MSA was formed so it was just ISMA from the East and the WSRL(?) from the West. A very exciting race and that was my first time ever seeing them up close.

I do remember that the weight differential right side vs left side was different. I believe that the cars from the East were 65-35 percent while the ones from the West were 70-30. They also had a number of other things to work out inorder to run this show. A very competitive race and they put on quite a show. Unfortunately it was a one and done as they never returned again.

Sounds like Anderson may have more of an issue than just a canceled supermod show. I hope it dont happen but I dont see much good coming out of there financial situation. Hope Im wrong and it all works out but things need to change at that place quickly.

hope they figure it out, I've been a supermodified fan for around 55 years and it seems they get scarcer each year/ they're not really made for 1/4 miles by any stretch anyways, but I sure enjoyed seeing em at winchester the past couple of years though!
