They used to try and keep the lower pickup points as much in line with the bearing as possible to provide as much bite as possible but that generally led to the torsion arms having so much angle that they could twist which basically gave away everything they gained unless you went with steel arms to prevent twist. Call XYZ Mfg they offer both and know what they're talking about.

Our sprintcar birdcages are different from what we run wing versus non wing. The wing birdcages have a closer distance between the pick up points (where the radius rod bolts to the birdcage,the distance between that and where your slide bolt for your arm goes into the birdcage).
Our non wing cages have a wider distance between the pick up points.

The difference between wing and non wing birdcages is all in the pickup point height for the arm. Wing cars run there rear much higher than a non wing car so the pickup point is higher for arm angle and a nonwing cage is lower because you run the car lower. Most birdcages today have both Wing and non wing options.
