How did it get its name? Hadn't really thought about it until recently and figured someone on here might know why.

This was on the internet so it has to be true.

One interesting fact about Putnamville: not only did Abraham Lincoln come through on his way to Springfield, Illinois on the old national trail (now US 40), he stayed the night in a small hotel, which is still there today, located just a few blocks behind the old post office.

Took a dump under Oak tree in upper parking lot and someone found them petrified and called them Lincoln Logs.

And three days later, on a Trip Advisor review stated "I'd rather be shot, than to have to spend another night at the Putnamville Inn. I rate this stay one star."

I remember my first trip to Putnamville and the track.
We were driving slowly down the street looking for the track. There was a guy standing out in front of his house in this drive way and my wife rolls down the window, and asks where the track is.
He say's "It's in my back yard", "pull in and park here". So we did. I think he even offered us a hamburger.
Pretty friendly.
If I remember right it was a USAC-CRA race and Walt Kennedy may have been leading the feature when it rained out.
