I can only speak for this site but IOW's web traffic has increased every year even with the facebook and twitter boom.
It has had an impact the amount of time people spend on IOW.
I've heard a lot of people say "I just read... I don't want to post." And I completely understand the reasons why.
This really isn't something I'm to concerned about. If people find this site "useful" they will use it. If they don't... Then i will need to find another hobby. Haha.

Just one time in my life I'd like to see more members than guests. I can dream right or would that be a nightmare.
Maybe I need to do more self promotion.

The only way to stop this is you have to limit what a guest can see. Many of your quests are just members not logging in. Many people log in on 1 computer (like at home) where they keep up on everything. This is also where majority of there posts will come from. Then they will log in from another computer ( like at work ) to see whats going on. There they do not plan to post, so they will not log in.
