Ashamed to say that at 60 years of young, i have never ventured to the high banks at Bristol, but that ends in a couple weeks. And i figured nowhere better to get tips on things to see and places to eat then in here on IOW, so help me out, give me your ideas on the best spots for souvenir junk or a local Legion hall with a kicka$$ pancake breakfast. i will appreciate all the help, bob.

Been to Bristil 30+ times. Where are you staying. That makes all the difference on where to go. Traffic is horrible, If you are staying in johnson City I can help with back roads and short cuts where to park saving you about 3 hours of sitting in lines. All souvinor trailers and tents are all located in front of track outside of turn 1 and 2. Tents selling stuff about 1/2 mile in length.

From friends I know. You might want to invest in a good pair of noise canceling ear phones. Thunder Valley isn't named that way from storms. IT's Very loud mainly from the aluminum
stadium which is also what makes it special.

Thanks Charles, the 2 things i do know about Bristol is about the noise and to have a good pair of hiking boots for the climb up to the stadium, bob.

I went once. I loved every bit of it. It was in the fall though. One of the best stock car races I have ever been to. You will love your experience there.

We camped across the road and yes, you will be walking a lot! But, it is so worth it. Love Bristol!

As dirt330 said it all depends on where you stay. We have been going for over 25 years but we take the motor home so we don't have to venture out and fight the traffic.

All of your souvenier trailers and tents will be right on or near the speedway property. If you can't find it there, it probably isn't available. Be happy to share anything we can concerning travel into and out of the area.

Ear protection is a must if you plan on hearing anything for the future. I would also pack plenty of clothing including longjohns and winter type gear. It can get cold in the evenings and if you plan on being out could make the trip a little more comfortable. Most of all bring plenty of patience as the trip in and out of the speedway area will test it. Remember, a lot of these folks partake in a liquid refreshment or twelve at the track and then try to show everyone who really is the professional race car driver.

HOLD ON just a minute, you say there will be beer drinkers there? Maybe it won't be as bad as you say though since the Sunday of the race will also be "St. Patricks Day!!! Not alot of drinking on that holiday is there? Plus being a holiday, no mail delivery or trash pickup on that Sunday.
& now that i think of that, will danica "don't call me dani" PATRICK get special treatment on her special day? (then again, she's not a saint yet, just a queen).
Monday is already a scheduled vacation day also, to let my ears, legs, and liver recover. Thanks for all the advice so far, bob.

Went to Bristol wondering why all the crazies were wearing ear phones. Well for 2-3 days after the race I realized why they wore them. lol It was an awesome experience though. We sat in Petty C row 5 or 7 I believe. We camped in the rv section and was close to walk around the track where all the vendors were and grilled out in the parking lot and sipped a few.
