Dear Teams, Drivers, and Fans…

As the 2013 racing season draws nearer and nearer, our anxiety level is building, as we anticipate what could be one of the most competitive and exciting racing seasons ever! Recently, several people have approached me with questions regarding the new dirt track open wheel series called the United Racing Association (URA). Many are as excited as I am to witness the Inaugural races to be held under this new banner next month. As with any new organization, many of you have some concerns. Initially I shared some of those same concerns, until I had lengthy discussions with those involved in this program. I am now convinced that nothing but good can come from this effort and I feel very comfortable that this association has the best interest of our racing community in mind.

I believe that as more people realize what the URA is about and what its goals are, they will be less likely to fear any type of alienation from other series or organizations that hold similar events.

The United Racing Association was formed to accomplish two (2) main goals:
1. The URA was created to fulfill a theory and vision that if our racing was less restrictive and an “unlimited” platform was created for the teams, the cost of building our racing engines would be reduced as creativity is unleashed.
2. The URA is formed by a group of racers that acknowledge that this sport needs to grow in order to continue, and thus wanted to provide an organization that allowed for more racing venues and events, in an attempt to create more racing options for local racers and teams.

In the past, we have witnessed some organizations come along that had different philosophies and different agendas that didn’t necessarily have the sake of our sport in mind, but instead had what some would even go so far as to call malicious intentions. We’ve seen how short-lived some of those groups were, and how nothing but reduced car counts, hurt feelings, and negative energy came from that.

Therefore, although I understand how some could misconstrue the intentions of the URA as an attempt to create division between ourselves and other organizations, it is truly quite the opposite. There is no animosity from those involved in the URA towards any other division. It is anything but “us versus them”. We are here to grow the sport we love and to create more opportunities for race teams.

The URA strongly encourages ALL teams to compete with the URA and all other organizations this year and beyond. We have no hidden agenda, other than to bring more racing to Southern and Central California. We want to see series stickers from all sorts of organizations on the cars that race at URA events. That is exactly why we have taken so long to issue our schedules, rules packages, and purse information.

The staff at the URA has worked extremely hard to do our due diligence to not overlap the racing schedules of other associations. We did our best in releasing a schedule (albeit a bit late in the game) that had as few conflicts as possible with the schedules that were made public at the time of our release. Since then, it has been brought to the attention of URA staff that we had some conflicts, and thus changes have been made and more changes will likely occur as well.

The URA is an “open arms” association. We welcome ALL race car drivers, teams, sponsors, and fans! We are trying to build a “Dream Team” staff of people working behind the scenes to create the best possible shows for each and every one of you. We will NOT close the door to anyone who would like to be a part of this venture.

The URA would like the teams and drivers to know that in addition to the purses for each event, the URA is an annual championship series available to all active URA members. Series points will be earned for each event and an annual series champion will be crowned for each division. There will also be an overall championship fund up for grabs for all URA members that participate in multiple divisions.

Another thing that the URA would like to bring back to the sport is the camaraderie that was once so prevalent amongst our racers and teams. The URA wants to rekindle the “club” atmosphere, by having socials, picnics, and gatherings before and after the races. Obviously the teams show up at the track with the goal of winning, but we want everyone to have fun doing so.

Stay tuned for announcements to be released soon regarding event purses, point funds, and rules.

Please join us on March 16th at Route 66 Motorplex in Victorville, California, which located within the San Bernardino Fairgrounds, just of the 15 Freeway at the Roy Rogers exit.

I can’t wait to see which drivers will take home the bragging right to say that they won the very first URA series feature! Maybe some of our stars will go for multiple crowns this year…it is possible for the URA Champions to also run for the championship in other series. Only time will tell who will go for it all.

The United Racing Association consists of a series of four (4) open wheel divisions: Unlimited Sprint Cars, Limited Sprint Cars, Unlimited Midgets, and Limited Midgets.

Rules are pretty simple .... Shut Up & Race

Aside from stringent safety rules and requirements, the descriptions of the four divisions are quite simple:

1. Unlimited Sprint Car : This division is open to conventional sprint car chassis. Wings are not allowed. There will be no restrictions for aspiration, displacement, or fuel. Electronic fuel injection is allowed. The tire rule applies only to the right rear, which must be a HTW. A weight rule will be enforced via scales.

2. Limited Sprint Car: This division is open to conventional sprint car chassis. Wings are not allowed. Fuel is limited to Methanol. The engines must have a cast iron block with a maximum displacement of 360 cubic inches, and must be normally-aspirated, mechanically injected, and have 23-degree heads. The tire rule applies only to the right rear, which must be a HTW. A weight rule will be enforced via scales.

3. Unlimited Midget: This division is open to conventional full-midget chassis. Wings are not allowed. There will be no restrictions for aspiration, displacement, or fuel. Electronic fuel injection is allowed. The tire rule applies only to the right rear, which must be a SP2. A weight rule will be enforced via scales.

4. Limited Midget: This division is open to conventional midget chassis. Wings are not allowed. Fuel is limited to Methanol. The engines must be of the Ford Focus motor package. The tire rule applies only to the right rear, which must be a SP2. A weight rule will be enforced via scales.
