So if you run USSA pavement sprints next year with a 360 engine, you only have to be at 1,450 pounds as opposed to 1,500 for a 410.
What do you think? Is that a fair rule or...? |

Depending on how much you want to spend on carbon fiber bodies and titanium, it could still be a stretch to get a steel block down to 1450 with the driver. It also depends on how big the driver is.

With everything else being equal - on average, what is the difference between a 360 and a 410 on weight, horse power, and price?

A bowtie block is around 70-80 lbs heavier than an average weight aluminum block. A Dart Block is closer to 100 lbs or more heavier than an average weight aluminum block. If either the steel or aluminum blocks have been lightened, that gap closes up or could increase depending on which block has been lightened and how much.
A good 410 can make 850 to over 900 horse depending on whose dyno you put it on. A good 360 can make around 700 with ASCS heads to 800 range with Open Heads. A good 410 will always make more torque than a 360 motor. Well I have seen both 410s and 360s in various price ranges. It all depends on how new, how fresh, and what kind of parts are in the motor. I remember usac allowing 410s to run with the wc 360s by using a restrictor plate.
WESTERN STATES SPRINT CARS are limited to V-8 engines with a maximum of 410.000 cubic inches all cars utilizing anything above 360 cubic inch to a maximum 410 cubic inch engine will be required to use 1 and 7/8” restrictors, spec shwanke excluded from restrictors. 360.0 C.I.D. +1% cleanup without restrictors. Shwanke Spec LS3 Sealed Engine 377 C.I.D, 12.5 compression ratio, RPM limit 7900 legal for use in Western States Sprint Cars. (restrictors supplied only by Tommy Hunt wsusac@sbcglobal. What weight breaks did USAC allow for the Neibel Chevy V-6 and the Hoffman car with the Vogler Buick NASCAR Grand National V-6?

I thought there was a weight break for the Niebel V6, don't know about the others.

A 50 pound weight break isn't gonna be enough to get the 360 guys to run with the 410's. Maybe Anderson but thats it.
