Can somebody tell me why my pictures don't show up on the thread? I copy & paste the URL of the image onto the insert image icon. Still learning the site...

Ty, after writing your about your photo, put a two line space, and then drop in your URL, this should work fine, it does for flickr. Also make sure it is BBCode.
