What's going to happen to USAC pavement sprints?

Is it just going to fade away as a memory?

Are people that own a pavement sprint car going to have to give it away because there is no place to race them now? Or are they forced to either leave them in the shop and wait to see what happens or put a wing on it and go race with those guys?

Maybe USAC will adjust the rules and purses and try to revive them?

Just wondering what everyone thinks? or does no one care? I know most on this site are dirt guys.

Don & Mel Kenyon through their USSA series sanction will be hold two sprint car races at Anderson Speedway this year. The first will be the 12th Annual Glen Niebel Classic on Sunday April 29th for a 100 lapper. The second race is on Saturday night June 16th. I would imagine that if these races draw enough interest (fans & cars alike) maybe they would consider hosting more down the road. If not......................

I am not aware of anyone else in the state of Indiana that will be running traditional sprints on pavement. USAC tried some shows at IRP last year and that didn't fly. Anyones guess as to if or when pavement sprintcar races would ever return if this venture doesn't work.

During the recession of the early 80's, we went two or three years with no USAC pavement racing other than the Speedrome. My guess is that it will come back as the economy gets stronger.

Thanks Rick,

That was before my time. So, I wouldn't remember that.

I guess history really does repeat itself.

I remember usac even went so far as to run a few races with wings on dirt back then. The pavement did come back really strong for years. Most of that was probably because of the thunder races live on espn.

They run nonwinged pavement sprints in Spartan Speedway and Springport Speedway in MI which is not to far north of the IN boarder. They don't pay alot on top but pay decent money to start so everyone can pay their tire bill. Last year they had anywhere from 16-25 cars a night.
