It has been two long years and a few extra days since I have lost my dearest of friends,, Rick Stewart,, I'm sure not many of you know Rick,, but those that do may just feel a litle loss as well..Rick was a true friend,, mentor,, business partner, sounding board, and the one who spent a lot of time bringing a lot of my crazy ideas back to earth.. He also has to be one of the best builders/fabricators in the US,, but I know for sure he is the best of the west..It was Rick that let me put aero skirts on his car and take it to Syracuse long before the others, it was he that let me put a new design 180 degree header on his house car outwest even though he probably thought it was one of the strangest things I had come up with.. I spent the last 25 years playing with aero stuff here in the Midwest,, but it was always that phone call to Phoenix that either kept the idea going,, or brought it back to earth and made me get out the eraser. He is the same guy that one night looked a me and some guy named Ferkel that was driving for him at the time and said "BOY" (no matter how old I was) I think you can see air.. It was he that also left me with the mark that I now carry with pride,, 'The Wizard of Air" There are still days that I have some idea in my head or on my board and start to pick up the phone to call,, those are the days that are the worst.. I know many a driver from the midwest that ventured out to the Copper Classic and Rick always had his doors open 24 hours a day for anybody that whole week.. Sure is hard to believe it has been two years,, but after his long battle with cancer I know he is in a lot better place and I am also for just having him as a friend and mentor..
Thanks Rick. The Wizard |

I met Rick at Crystal Motor Speedway here in Mich 1 yr long ago. He was a pleasure to meet & listen too. He just loved sprint cars & the people involved. I was saddened to hear of his passing. Joe Irwin is still racing a chassis of his I believe. His brother Stevie won a 360 Championship w/ the same car against some high dollar teams. RIP
