NICK SPEIDEL WINS AT MADISON

The Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Vincennes University competed at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Madison, Ind. on Saturday night where Muncie’s Nick Speidel picked up his first feature win of the year.

Speidel started on the pole of the feature but it was outside front row starter Kenny Byrge getting the jump at the drop of the green flag. Byrge led the first thirteen circuits before giving way to Speidel. Speidel and Byrge continued to battle with Byrge retaking the point on lap twenty-one. Speidel didn’t give up, passed Byrge once again, and led the final three laps for the victory.

Rookie Cody Kiewitt finished in a career best second place followed by Chris Mann, Byrge and Logan Arnold. Rick Robinson, Brett Hankins, Chris Smalley, Kyle Lux and Corey Eaglin rounded out the top ten.

Kiewitt topped the twenty car field in qualifications with a lap of 15.650 seconds around the tight fairgrounds oval. Brett Hankins won the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel, Kyle McIntosh and Bobby Walton won the qualifying races, and Chad Hankins, Walton and Speidel were the heat winners.

The Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race was Cody Kiewitt and another rookie, Logan Arnold, was the Pace Performance Coatings Hard Charger after advancing eight positions in the feature. Jon Steed dropped out of the feature while running in fifth position and was the Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Driver. Steed also won the drawing at the drivers meeting for the $50 Jackson Oil & Solvents gift certificate.

The next final race of the 2011 MTQRL season will be the “Russ Hankins/Bob & Robert Nichols Memorial” on Saturday September 24th at the Rush County Fairgrounds in Rushville, Ind.

I'll agree, great job, Nick, in fact, good job to all, I think we all saw some "helluvagood" racing Sat night, and as usual, my feelings are we put on a much better show, on the small tracks, close, carefull racing, and who says you can't pass, I saw a lot of passing Sat night, 2 wide in the turns, 3 wide on the short straights, track stayed tacky all night, no one on their tops, no red flags, good, down home racing. Lets keep em on the small tracks, where we aren't in competition with the other classes for fans, this is the way to rebuild TQ racing, plus we've got some heavy hitters, Butch Wilkerson, and Greg Staab in the background, helping with promotion, and guidance. Bob!

Would also like to give congrats to Jay Parks who has been a great teacher over the years to me and got his driver (cody) quick time and his best career finish. It was an amazing track and hard racing all night long.
