Joe Swanson drove his number 7s into victory lane this evening in the HOSS season finale at Anderson. He jumped out to an early lead and held on as the pack was hunting him down over the last 5 laps or so. The racing was intense throughout the middle portion of the race as the battle for second through fifth proved to be especially exciting. Lapped traffic played a big part in the outcome as the front runners had to dice their way through the pack.
The evening started off with a new track record. Aaron Pierce in his family owned 26 machine established a new track record of 10.211. The previous record was held by Geoff Kaiser with a 10.414 back in 2006. Speaking of Kaiser, he drove a great race after starting deep in the field to take home the final podium finish behind Swanson and second running Jimmy McCune. Pierce took home the season championship for the 2011 HOSS season after his fourth place run.
An entertaining night at Sun Valley with a decent crowd on hand for a chilly night at the speedway.
A correction to the original post. Charlie Schultz held the previous track record not Geoff Kaiser. Charlie broke Kaiser's record last year with a lap of 10.247. Sorry for the mixup.
Mike
Be nice to people on the way up. You might need them on the way down. Jimmy Durante
