After a softball tourney tomorrow, we will be bookin it to Putnamville from Illinois. Are the construction/delays on East bound I-70 between the Illinois border and Putnamville bad enough that taking US-40 across would be better? There was a post on here not too long ago warning about the construction that was getting ready to start.

I would take 40 I have been at the Fire Dept since 7 am yesterday and there has been a steady stream of truck traffic coming into Brazil on st rd 59 from I -70 so I would say it is pretty slow on I-70 I just went out to my truck to load somethings up to go home in a while and there are a few semis coming up 59 at 5 am

I'd recommend 40, this week. If you are coming over Labor Day weekend, it does say that lane restrictions will not be in place during Sept 2-5. |

I live on 40 on the other end of the state so know all about truck traffic when problems happen on 70. Personally I like to drive 40 whenever I'm not in a hurry to get somewhere, it's nice and relaxing and gives you a chance to see a little bit more of the world rather than a bunch of billboards flashing by at 70mph.....

Coming from Evansville, we turned off at Stuckey's, (Harlan Rd.), to 159 to 46 to I70 (Exit 11) to 59 (Exit 23) to 40. No problems. Returned on 243 to I70 to 41 (Exit 7). We decided to get a first hand look at the "Diesel Demons" in Terre Haute. Looked like everybody was having a good time. Weren't delayed too much at all.
