really glad you put more money in the purse just wish it wasnt put on the top needs to be in the middle, leave it alone on top as a owner that pays for my own stuff its nice when you when you come in first and get the money but you will finish 5th-10th more than 1st dont know how owners that pay drivers 30-40% do it, 10th place shouldnt pay the same as 20th now before all the pissn and moanin starts let me say unless you are paying the bills to keep a car at the track each week please dont defend putting all money on the top, if your a fan that comes every week to watch racing THANKS so the promotors can give us a place to race, like i said glad LPS is striving just wish the pay in the middle was better

Amen Kenny! Make it 1500 to win and 250 to start with 100 guaranteed tow money! Break it down good through the field. Atleast 500 for 5th and atleast 300 for 10th. Only one guy can get the 2000,but it takes all the other race cars coming back week after week to put on a show! They need some compensation too!

I hear what Kenny is saying, too, about putting the increase down in the meat of the field. I agree to a degree. Something can be said about how many cars Paragon has had over the years by knowing you'd get at least $100 for showing up during a regular night. I can see the train on thought of how paying the $2000 to win $200 to start could work in the long run. I don't have any insight of LPS's decisions, so I won't bother with why I think it would work. What I do know is that they HAVE raised the entire payout since taking over, and like their many other improvements, it's been appreciated by teams and fans. I think as they feel they can, they will continue. One thing that I always notice when I look back at photos from the previous week is how many billboards are up at the track compared to recent years. I hope that is a sign of how businesses are coming back in support of local racing. Chances are that it's that a lot of them have traded services as opposed to writing checks, but that's something. I'd like to think that means the local community is also starting to come back. And it's also on us to spend some money on our way through. Just some of my late night thoughts... |

this comment was not about tow money, usac used to pay 50.00 for b-mains all non transfers, im saying 10th place should not pay the same as 20th. if you run a b-main with competion as tuff as it is nowdays its realy not smart money wise wear and tear on cars to stay out and race unless you use it as test session to try something to see if it works if no pull off no harm done, like i said not bitchn just pointing it out

I've sang this song before at a few tracks. The winner is the winner and he takes the big money home and maybe makes a little money.
But what about the other 19 guys that just got their azzes kicked?? Their money was taken at the sign in, their family, friends and fans paid to watch as well and they get x money for their finishing spot and probally didn't break even. Purse money at any track should be fair from 5 to 20th and not the same 10 to 20. Give the racer something to race for even if it is another 10 more or less over those spots. But also understand that the promoter has lots of expenses as well just to run the track for a night plus how much more has he spent rebuilding the track?? LPS a lots been spent on the track to fix it up and the purse has gone up in all classes so they don't have much to add for a while. I understand the idea of saying XThousand to win to draw cars and fans. How about a race that pays normal purse but $1000 for 7th??? Wouldn't that be fun to watch the battle for 7th???? D.O. ![]() |

I'm going to approach this as if I was the promoter...
Since the overall sprint car feature payout is $7400 and positions 10-20 pays a total of $2,200, I'm going to keep those figures. 1st $1,400 2nd $800 3rd $700 4th $550 5th $450 6th $400 7th $350 8th $300 9th $275 10th $250 11th $240 12th $230 13th $220 14th $210 15th $200 16th $190 17th $180 18th $170 19th $160 20th $150 It's close... $7,425 total (The racer in me, added $25 ![]() From a promotional standpoint, $2000 to win and 200 to start just sounds better than $1400 to win, $150 to start. It's a delicate balance that needs to be thought out but as a promoter the bottomline is what is going to bring in more cars and more fans. Now, we've seen a few tracks do a purse increase based on car count but what about adding a different conditional... an attendance based purse increase? It is possible to get 40 sprint cars and have a very low general admission attendance. Anyone remember Vermilion County Speedway. Let's also not forget that I would be a new promoter with a lot of learning to do. I'm sure running a successful race track is much easier said than done. ![]() |

I would like to thank Kenny for his posting. I typically do not post as it seems that most "discussions" turn into wizzing matches in which I don't like to participate. However, I do feel strongly about this topic as an owner/driver (and yes in a support class, not sprints). My comments are in no way intended to be unappreciative of what the folks at LPS have done for the quality of the facility/track/racing, or the overall purse, as the turn around has been nothing short of amazing!
I definitely appreciate the extra $$'s being added to the purse, but unfortunately, each race night, there are only 4 people that get to bring home the winner's share of the purse (assuming there are 4 classes running). My largest concern is that we as racers only get the information related how much the winner gets and how much 10-20th gets. Everyone can easily make the argument that if you aren't there to win, then you shouldn't be there at all. While I agree with this statement, the FACT is that only about 4% (assuming 100 cars across 4 classes) actually win on any given night, the other 96% do not. It sure would be nice if the "losing" 96% know what to expect. I would also believe that if you polled the drivers and owners, that 96% or greater of them would prefer the extra purse be added throughout the field. A suggestion that I would offer from a "promotional" stand-point is how about promoting an "increased purse of XXX $$'s per class" rather than promoting the winners share and 10-20'ths share. Just my thought. Brett Smedley
