D’ARCY SHOOTOUT PAYING $4,000-TO-WIN ADDED TO MOPAR D1 MIDGET SKED

The 2011 USAC Mopar D1 Midget Series and STARS (Short Track Auto Racing Series) will combine forces on Saturday night, August 27 at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. to present a unique $4,000-to-win “D’Arcy Shootout” on the action-packed one-third mile paved oval.

The unique format will include qualifying, followed by three heat races offering direct transfers to the 35-lap feature event. The first of those heats will be a four-car trophy dash featuring the four fastest qualifiers, all of which will transfer directly to the feature. The second and third heats will include the rest of the qualifiers, with the top six finishers in each advancing to the 35-lap finale. Up to four race organizer “options” may be added to complete the feature field.

A special “draw” held at the start/finish line will determine the entire feature starting lineup for the “D’Arcy Shootout.”

Grundy County Speedway has a rich tradition of open-wheel competition and on July 2 witnessed one of the most spectacular performances in the history of the sport of Midget racing. That night, in the USAC Mopar National/STARS Midget event, Darren Hagen was relegated to the back of the field after stopping on the course early in the race. He proceeded to mow down the field in the remaining laps and on the final lap caught and passed Tracy Hines to post as most improbable and unbelievable victory in the Freedom 50.

“We are extremely pleased to be part of this unique and exciting format,” offers USAC’s James Spink. “The July 2 race at Grundy County was one we’ll never forget and we can certainly look forward to another memorable night August 27. We are coming off a great two-race USAC/STARS weekend at Plymouth, Ind. and Morris, Ill. featuring more than 20 cars each night.”

“With the success of the border battle at Plymouth and Grundy, having the D1 series back to Grundy for this huge event is our way of saying thank you for what they have done and continue to do for midget racing in the Midwest,” added Mike Guglielmucci of STARS.
